In a shocking turn of events on Hawaii’s Big Island, a 36-year-old man has been charged with the murders of three individuals in a tranquil community known for its unique, communal way of life. Jacob Daniel Baker faces serious allegations, including first- and second-degree murder, following a harrowing manhunt that culminated in his arrest just two days before the charges were filed.
According to the Hawaii Police Department, Baker was taken into custody after authorities discovered the bodies of the victims in the rural Puna area, a place celebrated for its lush landscapes and off-grid living. The first victim, 69-year-old Robert Shine, was found on Monday, partially submerged in a cement pond. The next day, police located 79-year-old Chitta Morse just a short distance away. The third victim, John Carse, also 69, was discovered later on Tuesday at a location 19 miles from the other two.

Baker’s history is concerning, with court records showing his name linked to 20 other cases over the past two decades, primarily traffic-related offenses. Notably, he often represented himself in these matters, without legal counsel.
