Josh Duggar is once again challenging the federal prison system, this time claiming that his recent transfer to a medical facility wasn’t about his health at all—it was retaliation.
After spending nearly three years at FCI Seagoville in Texas, Josh was unexpectedly transferred to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Fort Worth at the end of May, leaving many wondering what prompted the move. While some speculated that medical or mental health concerns were behind the transfer, Josh’s attorney insists that’s not the case.
According to Josh’s attorney, Beau Brindley, the former 19 Kids & Counting star believes prison officials transferred him because he exposed problems inside FCI Seagoville during his latest appeal.
Brindley told TMZ that Josh recently confirmed he is “not sick with any illness,” leading his legal team to question why he was sent to a federal medical center in the first place.
The attorney argued that the move came shortly after Josh criticized the prison’s handling of inmate legal mail in court filings, suggesting officials were retaliating against him for bringing attention to those alleged issues.
Not everyone agrees with Josh’s version of events.
After news of the transfer became public, an anonymous source claimed Josh had become a security concern while housed at Seagoville. According to the source, the low-security prison allegedly was no longer equipped to manage him, resulting in the decision to move him to FMC Fort Worth while officials determined his next placement.
Those claims have not been confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The transfer came shortly after another major setback in Josh’s legal battle.
A federal judge recently rejected his latest attempt to overturn his conviction, ruling that his explanation for filing paperwork after the deadline was not credible.
Despite that defeat, Josh has already filed another appeal, signaling that he has no intention of giving up his effort to challenge his conviction and sentence.
For now, Josh remains in federal custody as both his legal battle and questions surrounding his transfer continue, with neither prison officials nor the Bureau of Prisons publicly explaining why he was moved to the medical facility.
