A trio of inmates were sentenced to life behind bars for killing a fellow prisoner who murdered his partner’s 2-year-old child. They did it in less than five minutes, and one of them had carried out a similar killing before.

The three inmates at His Majesty’s Prison Wakefield (HMP Wakefield) — Mark Fellows, David Taylor and Lee Newell — were found guilty on Friday, June 19, of killing fellow prisoner Kyle Bevan in the attack at the men’s prison in Wakefield, England, late last year, according to the BBC.
Fellows, 45, Taylor, 64, and Newell, 57, “cornered” Bevan — who was in prison for murdering a 2-year-old girl — in his cell around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2025, then exited less than five minutes later, per the outlet, which obtained CCTV footage from before and after the attack.
Prosecutor Jason Pitter KC said they exited Bevan’s cell in a “ ‘satisfied, job done’ mood,” per the BBC.
According to the BBC, the three inmates tucked Bevan into his bed as if he was sleeping so his death would go unnoticed for longer — and staff at HMP Wakefield did not learn of the killing until the following morning.
The prosecutor said that after “violently” murdering Bevan, the prisoners placed him in the cell “in such a way, he appeared to be asleep in his bed,” per the outlet. He was later discovered with stab wounds to both his chest and abdomen during the next morning’s roll call.

The three inmates used makeshift weapons, including one made from a metal TV part, to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 the convicted murderer. “He was stabbed and injured over 30 times, with at least one and probably more than one weapon,” Pitter continued.
A blood-stained piece of Fellows’ clothing was disposed of following the killing, and Pitter said Newell had “blood physically on his hands,” per the BBC. “Metaphorically though, all three of them did,” the prosecutor added.
HMP Wakefield did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Saturday, June 20.
Bevan, 33, was serving a life sentence for the murder of his partner’s 2-year-old daughter, Lola James, in 2020, per the outlet. Pitter also said in court that Bevan “kept himself to himself” and had no known associations with his three murderers.
“You chose him as your target as he had been convicted of the murder of a child,” judge Maura McGowan said in court, per the BBC, adding that the judge also said “there were congratulations” when the group of three returned to where they reside in the prison after the killing.
The judge also told the trio, “All of you had killed before,” with one of them having also killed a child killer before, per the BBC.
Newell was placed behind bars in 1989 for murder after strangling his female neighbor and sentenced to life in 2013 after killing a prisoner who, like Bevan, had murdered a child, according to the outlet. Pitter told jurors that Newell strangled the child murderer and left him in his bed with “a chilling similarity to that and the circumstances of Kyle Bevan’s death,” per the BBC.
Fellows, meanwhile, was sentenced to life in 2019 after he was found guilty of two killings, one in 2015 and one in 2018, per the BBC.
Taylor was sentenced to 20 years to life for murdering Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin, a 24-year-old woman he was in a relationship with, as well as 30 years for the attempted murder of the police officer that he injured in a prison interview room stabbing, per the BBC.
According to the outlet, he received the life sentence on Friday, along with the life sentence for Bevan’s murder.
