Former reality television personality Joseph Duggar has filed a new motion in his ongoing child molestation case, asking a Florida judge to modify restrictions that currently prevent him from coming within 500 feet of his alleged victim’s former residence.

Joseph Duggar pleads not guilty to sex crimes charges in Florida, seeks to have contact with his children | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-GazetteAccording to recently filed court documents, Duggar’s legal team argues that the alleged victim and her family no longer live at the property in question, claiming the residence has effectively been abandoned.

Duggar, best known for appearing on TLC reality series 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, was arrested in March after authorities in Bay County, Florida accused him of inappropriate conduct involving a minor during a 2020 family vacation in Panama City.

Investigators alleged Duggar repeatedly asked the girl to sit on his lap and engaged in inappropriate physical contact. Law enforcement documents also claimed the girl’s father confronted Duggar before his arrest and that Duggar admitted wrongdoing during the exchange.

Duggar has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

As part of the conditions of his release, the court ordered Duggar to avoid all contact with the alleged victim and remain at least 500 feet away from her residence.

In the motion, his attorneys state he needs access to the locations to perform maintenance work including landscaping, mowing lawns, repairing drywall, painting, and installing flooring.

“The continued No Contact Order in its present form is causing issues with the Defendant being able to maintain the properties,” the filing reportedly states.

The motion further emphasizes that Duggar is not seeking contact with the alleged victim herself, but only requesting access to the surrounding properties now that the family allegedly no longer resides there.

The latest filing comes shortly after Duggar’s attorney submitted another request asking the court to allow him unsupervised visits with his own children. Under current release conditions, Duggar is prohibited from unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Duggar and his wife, Kendra Duggar, are also facing separate charges in Arkansas involving allegations of child endangerment and false imprisonment. Those charges are unrelated to the Florida case.

A pre-trial hearing in the Florida child molestation case is currently scheduled for July 14.
