The text message came in while I was helping coach the kids’ training session. “I’m going out with Joe. I’ll be home before you finish. ” She wasn’t.

I got home at seven, and her car was still in the driveway, but she never walked through the door. I stayed up, ready to end things the second she showed up, but she never came home that night. We had been together for three and a half years. I met Joe through the sport we all shared, and we became friends over that common passion.
At the time, I’d been dating Jane for over a year, and she insisted on coming to my training sessions. After nearly a year of her showing up, I started noticing changes. She looked at Joe differently. She acted differently around him.
Joe is one of the simplest people I’ve ever met—nothing special about his life. I gave her security, loyalty, and opportunities through our relationship. But I hit a rough patch. I had to leave my job because of mistreatment, so I was unemployed for about two months.
During that time, I found out she had been messaging Joe on social media and meeting him behind my back. He’d pick her up from our place, and I never knew where she was going. Gym sessions. Lunch dates.
Paddle boarding. Watching sunsets together. And she sent him intimate photos—she even told me she sent them. I set a clear boundary.
I told her, “If you don’t remove him from everything and stop seeing him, we’re done. ” Instead, she turned off her location, ignored me more, refused to go out with me, and wouldn’t touch me at all—no sex, no holding hands, no kisses, no hugs. I already knew what was coming. That night, she texted me saying she’d be home before I finished.
She never came back. At 11:30, she sent another message: “We need to talk. ” I begged her not to break up with me over social media. She left the house that night, and thirty minutes later, Jane and Joe were in my old home together.
Joe claims he slept on the couch to protect her from me. I’m a police officer. I’ve never hit anyone or touched anyone with malice. I don’t do drugs.
I barely drink. For over six months, they had been sneaking around behind my back. Three weeks after the breakup, they were posting pictures of each other online every day. I blocked them both.
Joe tried to reach me through mutual friends, asking me to unblock him. I told him to go to hell.
