Jamie’s sister Becca’s voice screeches through the phone, demanding she come home for Christmas. But Jamie is at the ski resort where she works, the same place her best friend Steph vanished three years ago. The TV in the bar plays the annual news segment about the disappearance, showing a footage clip of a younger, frantic Jamie. Steph had run out into a snowstorm that night after a bad breakup.

Jamie followed her but lost her in the woods, finding only a cave where she had a terrifying vision of Steph frozen in ice, with a strange, beautiful woman made of snow singing nearby. Everyone, including her therapist, told Jamie it was a stress-induced hallucination. Convinced she was losing her mind, Jamie has spent three years trying to bury the memory. Later, a reporter corners Jamie, claiming another girl, Natalie Sawyer, has gone missing from the resort.
Before she can escape, a tall, impossibly handsome stranger yanks the journalist away. The man is clearly drunk and babbling about a girl made of ice. He’s bleeding from a wound on his leg, and Jamie, feeling indebted, takes him to her apartment to help. The man, who gives his name as Edward, is disoriented but somehow knows about the ice cave.
When Jamie checks his leg, the wound is already healed. They share a strange connection before he falls asleep on her couch. In the middle of the night, Jamie hears him humming a haunting tune—the exact same melody from the cave—chilling her to the bone. The next morning, Edward wakes to find Jamie’s family, who have arrived for an unplanned Christmas visit, staring at him.
To get her family off her back, a desperate Jamie blurts out a request for Edward to pretend to be her boyfriend. Edward, who is secretly an Alpha werewolf investigating the disappearance of his assistant’s brother, Jonah, sees a perfect opportunity. He agrees, claiming to Jamie’s family—and to Victoria Grant, the local pack Alpha’s daughter—that Jamie is his “faded mate,” a sacred bond no other wolf would question. As they play their part for her family and the Grant pack, their fake relationship starts to feel disconcertingly real.
Edward is drawn to Jamie’s defiance and warmth, while Jamie sees a vulnerability beneath his cold, commanding exterior. They share stolen kisses for “cover” and tender moments that blur the lines. Searching for clues, Edward and Sam, his assistant, find intricate ice patterns in the woods, leading Sam to believe they are dealing with a nymph—a powerful mountain spirit. They also discover that Jamie’s missing friend and others are frozen solid in an ice cave under the Grant’s hotel.
Complicating things is Richard Grant, Victoria’s father and the pack Alpha. He reveals that he made a wish to a mysterious magician for a nymph to save his failing resort, but in return, the nymph freezes people. Richard has Jamie kidnapped to force Edward’s hand, threatening to let her freeze if Edward doesn’t help him deal with the nymph. Edward pretends not to care, hoping to buy time and save Jamie and the frozen victims.
But Jamie, forced to watch the cold exchange on a security monitor, is devastated. She sees a cold, calculating man who dismisses her as a “pretty girl” and discusses killing the magician with chilling pragmatism. After she’s freed, Jamie confronts Edward, heartbroken. She tells him she’s seen who he really is—a man who plots murder for business.
When he can’t deny it, she breaks things off, saying she needs a real human being, not someone so self-absorbed. Wandering the snowy streets, Edward is lost in shame and self-loathing. He realizes he cares for Jamie more than any of his ambitions. Drawn by a haunting melody that echoes his emptiness, he finds himself face-to-face with the nymph.
She is a lonely, tragic creature who freezes people to keep from being alone. Seeing the same emptiness in him, she takes him, encasing him in ice to be her companion. While the others are mysteriously unfrozen, Edward remains missing. Jamie is frantic with worry, realizing she may have lost him forever.
She rushes to the ice cave where she finds him frozen, a pale statue. Desperate, she confronts the nymph. She pours her heart out, begging for Edward’s release and finally declaring, “I love him. ”
Moved by Jamie’s emotion, the nymph releases not only Edward but also her hold on his heart, allowing him to return.
Emerging from the cave, Edward and Jamie share a moment of relief and silent understanding. Back at her bar, Jamie is still heartbroken, trying to convince herself she’s fine without him. But he appears at her door, having realized he can’t spend Christmas without the woman he loves.
He asks if he can stay, and she pulls him into a kiss as her family cheers, proving that Christmas miracles do exist.
