I’m sleeping with my best friend’s son. And I’m not sorry about it. I’m doing this for revenge. Against Claire, the woman who destroyed my marriage.

Against my husband Victor, who spent six years abusing and gaslighting me. In the beginning, I believed him. He seemed like a gentleman, and I thought he would lead my life somewhere better. But I knew what he really was from our wedding day.
My best friend showed up looking stunning, and Victor couldn’t hide his interest. He made a joke about splitting marital assets and asked where her son Leo was. “I’ll be with him tonight,” she said. I laughed it off.
But something in me started to crack. I heard Leo got a full scholarship to NYU for computer science. When I saw him at that party, he looked so much like the boy I used to know, and nothing like the man I was married to. I had an idea.
“I live close to campus and I have a spare room,” I told Claire. “You need someone to take care of Leo while he’s there. Why don’t you come stay at my place? ”
I knew it was messy.
Victor was supposed to become Leo’s stepfather soon. But Claire agreed, and I brought him home. He was shy at first. I showed him the house and told him we’d have to share a bathroom.
I said I had enough food for the both of us for a week. “You knew I’d be coming this whole time, didn’t you? ” he asked. I didn’t answer.
But Leo had plans of his own. He told me later that he’d been in love with me for years. That I was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. Every dollar he made was to close the gap between us.
The only reason he applied to college there was to walk the same streets I did. I never dreamed I’d have a spare room. We fell into something complicated. One night, he asked me to bring him a towel, and I forgot mine in his room.
He asked me to bring it to the door. I left it and walked away. But it was already too late. We both knew what was happening.
Victor came home one day. I saw him through the window, and my blood went cold. He and Leo were in the garden. Victor had turned off the cameras because he didn’t want anyone watching.
He confronted me. “You’re going to hit me again, aren’t you? ” I said. He didn’t deny it.
He told me to get out of his house. I called him a sick man and told him I was going to the police. I didn’t know then that Victor had cameras in every room of our house, even the bathrooms. I’d shut them down three days before.
I told Leo that. But I didn’t understand what was really going on. Victor and I had been separated for two years by then. At least, that’s what he told people.
But we still lived together. He still controlled everything. Claire came to the house one day, pretending to return a charger. But I knew better.
She and Victor had been having an affair for years. I’d found out about the apartment in Tribeca he bought with our money, the apartment where she was living. I wasn’t blind anymore. I called my old friend Lucy, a lawyer.
“Liam and I are getting a divorce,” I said. “I need you. ”
She hesitated. She hadn’t handled a divorce case in years.
But I asked her to look at what I sent her before she decided. I had evidence. I had proof of everything Victor did to me. Leo came home one day to find his ex-girlfriend Talia waiting outside.
She followed him from California, demanding answers. He told her they were over. She didn’t take it well. She showed up at the house while Claire and Victor were there, and everything collided.
Claire couldn’t contain herself. She confronted Victor in front of everyone, accusing him of breaking his promise to marry her. “We had a deal,” he said. “Just wait until the IPO’s finished.
”
“Wait for what? ” she screamed. “Until Diana discovers a little bit more every day? I’m done waiting.
”
I stood there watching the mess. They were all in my house, my marriage, my life, tearing it apart in front of me. Victor tried to leave with an excuse about an emergency at the office. Claire said she had an early flight.
But I wasn’t done with either of them. “Your turn,” I told Claire when we were alone. “When are you leaving? ”
“No, we are not done,” she said.
“We need to talk. Just us. ”
Talia wasn’t finished either. She cornered Leo and accused him of wanting someone else.
“I saw it out back with that cougar,” she said. “Good,” Leo told her. “Now you know how done we are. Get out.
”
She left, but she went straight to someone else. A man named Nicholas, the founder of CC Coin. He told her he’d seen everything, all the drama, and he had his own score to settle. “Remember the CC Coin meltdown three years back?
” he said. “Somebody exploited a system glitch and walked off with 100,000 coins in thirty seconds. That was him. ”
He was talking about Leo.
The boy I thought I knew. Nicholas wanted Leo’s coins. He wanted his leverage. “Help me get the coins, you get your pound of flesh, I get my retirement cut,” he told Talia.
I had no idea any of this was coming. I only knew that everything around me was unraveling. Victor threatened me with the cameras. He said he’d show everyone what I’d done.
But I wasn’t afraid anymore. I’d been through six years of his manipulation, and I was done. Leo and I had a moment alone. He asked me if I was with Victor for his money.
I didn’t answer right away. “I need security,” I told him. “Real security. Not the kind that money can buy.
”
He didn’t understand. But I didn’t want him to. I had a plan, and I couldn’t tell him. Claire came back for the hard drives.
She was working with Talia and Nicholas, digging for anything that could hurt me. She found Leo’s luggage, his laptops, his passwords. She didn’t care that she was betraying her own son. “Our new secret crew needs Leo’s password book,” Nicholas told her.
“Get it, and we will protect Leo. But the most important thing: we can screw Diana over completely. ”
She agreed. I found out about the cameras, the hacked feeds, the blackmail.
Nicholas had been watching us the whole time. He had footage of everything, Leo and me, Victor and Claire. He planned to use it. Victor came home drunk one night, raving about how I ruined his life.
He tried to hit Leo. Claire stopped him. The two of them screamed at each other in the middle of my house. “You were about to hit my son!
” Claire yelled. “He’s in my goddamn house! ” Victor shouted back. “Why don’t you take your son and get back to California?
”
“We are not leaving! ”
It was chaos. Total chaos. Victor handed me divorce papers.
I laughed. “I want ten million dollars in cash,” I said. “For what? ” he asked.
“That little scholarship kid? ”
“This isn’t about Leo,” I told him. “Tell me, Victor, the apartment in Tribeca bought with our money. Who’s living there?
”
“You’ve got nothing,” he said. “You’ve got no evidence. ”
“I’ll see you in court, then,” I said. “I used to destroy men like you for a living.
”
I meant it. Leo’s mother came to me, trying to convince me to forgive her, to protect Leo from the mess. But I couldn’t. She’d sold her own son for money.
She’d helped Nicholas and Talia get what they needed to destroy him. Leo tried to protect me. He locked me in a room with his security team because Nicholas had made threats against my life. I screamed about illegal confinement.
I told him I could handle it myself. But he wouldn’t listen. “I’ve got to protect you how I want to protect you, even if you hate me for it,” he said. Then he went to face him.
Nicholas held a press conference. He brought out a fake McDonald’s Kid, trying to convince the world that their scheme was real. But Leo walked onto the stage and told everyone the truth. “Three years ago, when I first saw that glitch, I realized something fast,” Leo said.
“It wasn’t a bug. It was a backdoor. Nicholas built it. He planned a rug pull at the peak, walk away with everyone’s money.
”
The crowd went silent. “I’m done running,” Leo said. “I’m going to take every dirty dollar they try to steal and put it where it actually matters. Effective immediately, I’m donating ninety percent of my assets, eight hundred fifty million dollars, to a foundation for protecting women’s rights and supporting women survivors of abusive marriage.
”
He looked at me as he said it. I think he meant it for me. Nicolas tried to threaten him. He showed him a fake photo of me, dead.
Leo panicked, left the stage, and called everyone. He found me safe in the end, but the damage was done. Victor, desperate and ruined, came after me with a knife. Leo stood between us.
“Take me instead,” Leo said. “Leave Diana. ”
Victor grabbed me. “You want to play hero?
” he spat. “Fine. ”
But I wasn’t the helpless woman he thought I was. I’d spent years learning how to fight.
Anderson Group went bankrupt amid the scandal. Claire went to prison. Victor lost everything, the company, the money, the reputation. I helped Lucy win her divorce case and reclaimed my title as New York’s best divorce lawyer.
I established a legal aid fund for women who lost themselves in marriage. I wanted to use my experience to help people find the courage to start over. And Leo? He’s still in my life.
We don’t know what we’re doing. But we’re figuring it out. Because marriage can fail. But a life doesn’t.
And I refused to let anyone take mine from me again.
