3 hours later, I walked out with a signed contract, $2,500 per hour, 6-month minimum engagement as chief security consultant, and full authority over the authentication infrastructure.
The $650 million merger would proceed, but under my terms. Lucas cleaned out his office that afternoon. As I drove home in my Mustang, I realized something. The legacy system was gone, but the engineer who built it, he was just getting started.
