I was just grabbing a burger at the mall when I saw my girlfriend of three years walking hand-in-hand with another man. I thought I was losing my mind. I followed her to her car, and when I called...

I spotted her by pure accident. I was craving fast food, didn’t want to pay delivery fees, so I drove to the mall food court myself. Victoria told me she was at a friend’s birthday party. Instead, I saw her walking through the mall with a guy I’d never seen before.

He had his arm around her. I grabbed my food and followed them, recording on my phone the whole way. I kept hoping I was wrong, that it wasn’t her. Then she stopped at her car.

I made a stupid decision. I called her name. She jumped when she saw me, tried to play it cool, asked what I was doing there. I held up the fast food bag and asked her what was going on.

The guy stepped in front of her like he was protecting her from some creep. I told him she was my girlfriend. He didn’t care. He told me to get lost.

Victoria told him to stop, that he was making things worse. He wasn’t listening. He stepped closer, repeated himself. I’m a small guy.

He was bigger than me. He swung, I stepped back. My ego screamed at me to fight, but I knew I’d end up on the ground. So I stepped away, made it obvious I was still recording.

He told me to stop, tried to come at me again, but Victoria held him back. I left. I didn’t hear from her for a week. I packed her stuff, sent a message telling her to let me know when she wanted it.

I figured that was the end of it. The relationship was obviously over. Then I was driving home from work one night. I turned down a smaller road, and a car pulled in front of me recklessly.

I slammed on the brakes. A bunch of guys got out. Two of them had metal rods. One of them was the guy from the mall.

I locked the doors, grabbed my phone, and called the police. I had a dash cam so I didn’t need to record. The guy told me to get out. I said no.

He said I could do it the easy way or the hard way. The police answered. I started explaining what was happening. When the guys realized I was on the phone with the cops, they started smashing my car with the rods.

I was terrified. I knew I had to get out of there. As soon as they breached the window beside me, I hit the gas. I felt a hand try to grab me.

I almost ran one of them over, had to bump their car out of the way to squeeze past. I didn’t go home. I drove far away, finished the call with the police, and waited for officers to meet me. My side mirror was smashed off, my windshield was cracked, and the driver’s side window was broken.

I knew if they’d gotten to me, I might not have made it. I gave the police the dash cam footage. It had their faces and their plates. I knew Victoria had to be involved.

There was no other way they found me, unless they followed me home from work. I couldn’t understand the motive. I did nothing wrong. She cheated on me, I caught her, I walked away.

Why would anyone want to hunt me down over that? The police questioned Victoria and took her phone. She told them the truth: that I was her boyfriend, and she cheated on me. But she had told the other guy I was a stalker who had been bothering her for a long time.

That’s why he decided to bring his boys to “end me. ”

His name was Dan. His texts on the group page made their intent clear. The prosecutor went after him for attempted murder, assault, conspiracy, and vandalism.

He’s still in jail because his bond is high. The others got out on smaller bonds, so I decided not to stick around in case they wanted to finish the job. I’m moving to another part of town. Victoria never reached out.

Not to explain, not to apologize, not even to get her stuff. I donated it all. I was furious. She lied, and it nearly got me killed.

I wasn’t about to let her get away with that. I couldn’t go near her without complicating the case, so I went to the local press. Where I live, it’s easier for them to get access to those texts and police information. They ran the story.

I made sure my own social media referenced it too, so my circle saw exactly what she was up to. I got a lot of sympathetic messages. I counted every single one as another person who now disapproved of Victoria. She still never reached out.

I think she knew she could never face me again. I needed that to eat her from the inside. She deserves that pain. I lost a girlfriend and almost lost my life.

Now I have to move just to feel safe. But I’ll make it through. I’m a single man, and I’m happy to be single. It took time, but I’ll heal.

Dan tried to end me over a lie, and he’ll live with that. Victoria chose the path where she didn’t have to face what she did, and it landed her affair partner in jail and blew up her reputation anyway. Sometimes you do everything right and still end up paying for someone else’s lies. But they’ll live with what they did for the rest of their lives.

That’s a punishment they can’t dodge.
