I was streaming, just trying to practice a new dance, when I did a harmless April Fools prank by sticking a paper fish on my back. The chat loved it, but then one comment dropped that made my...

“If you’re French, this is for you. Poisson d’avril! Here’s a happy fish I’m sticking on your back. There’s the prank.

” I snorted and stuck a paper fish on my own back to show the joke. Happy April Fools from me, Auntie Anne. The chat was buzzing. I glanced at the comments and asked for a little support.

“Please go like my Instagram post if you can. It really helps. Or check out the Reddit—it’s been popping off because of that Pretzel Parmesan video. ”

Music started playing softly.

“Is it okay if I practice my dance while we talk? ” I asked. It was fine, so I stood up and tried to get the moves right. I was trying to learn Alyssa Liu’s “State Side” dance.

She’s so cute and so funny. I wanted to nail it. But the tutorial was hard. I watched her video and attempted the steps.

“Wait, is it this, and then… outside? ” I twisted my arms, but they wouldn’t move the way I wanted. “Oh, this one’s so hard. ”

I tried anyway.

Then came the part where I had to switch arms. “I can’t do it because of my arms,” I whined, and the chat laughed. I screamed and laughed at myself. “I’m so stiff!

But it looks so good when she does it. ”

I found the slowed version. That was easier. “State side, skin tight, when I look up at you…” I sang along, trying to keep up.

“Kissing my Swedish boy at night. ” I was determined to get this right. I taught the moves to my friend Minchu—that was funny. We tried the Alyssa Liu tutorial together, and I felt more confident.

“This is going to be so cool once I learn it. ”

I gave up on that one after a while. “It’s too hard. Fish to my tricks—I’m giving up on that.

” If it’s a left, whatever, I’m moving on. I decided to practice my solo dances instead. I went through some old favorites. Spaghetti, slowed, was so good.

But the last time I did that one, I hurt my arm, so I had to be careful. “Boots, that’s my ego boost,” I sang, trying a new move. The chat cheered me on. “Need more speed,” I muttered, speeding up the music.

I found a song called “Money” by Lisa. “That one’s so good. I should jump for it. ” I tried a jump during the chorus.

It was okay. “I might have to do it slowed instead. ”

I practiced for a while, feeling the beat. Then I switched to a different track.

I cleared my throat. “Eat it up, eat it up, eat it up,” I sang, trying to hit the moves right. That one was good. The chat was hyping me up.

Next, I pulled up another favorite: Bumble Bee. “Sweet little bumblebee, I know what you want from me. ” I was starting to get tired, but this was one of my favorite dances. I tried to keep my energy up.

“I have like one more song in me. ”

I scrolled through options. Hype Boy by New Jeans? Le Sserafim’s “Hot” was an old favorite, but it felt kind of dated already.

That new one with a lot of turning didn’t even come out yet. “Any requests? ” I asked the chat. “I need cardio.

” People shouted suggestions, but I laughed. “No, bro, I have asthma. Speed it up. ”

Finally, I decided on “Jump.

” Maybe I could do it slowed, and then I’d go feed my horse carrots. That was my plan. I gave it everything I had, moving through the routine, and when the music stopped, I collapsed. “I’m alive,” I gasped, catching my breath.

I was happy with how that went. “Thank you for following along. I’m going to fall asleep after this. ”

The chat was still laughing and sending hearts.

I was tired, but I was glad I pushed through the practice. I closed out the stream with a smile. That was enough dancing for today.
