A chilling new detail has emerged in the Idaho college murders case, revealing that victim Xana Kernodle ordered a late-night meal just minutes before her life was tragically cut short.
According to court documents released Thursday, the 20-year-old marketing student received a DoorDash delivery at her off-campus home on King Road in Moscow at 4 a. m. on November 13.
Sources say the food, believed to be from Jack in the Box based on photos from inside the house, was her final meal.
Investigators report that Kernodle was active on her phone at 4:12 a. m. , but by 4:25 a.
m. , she and her boyfriend Ethan Chapin, also 20, had been fatally stabbed in her bedroom. Her roommates, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were killed as they slept on a different floor.
The arrest affidavit states that Kernodle had returned home from a Sigma Chi fraternity party with Chapin earlier that night. Surviving roommates Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke told police that everyone in the house was home and in their rooms by 4 a. m.
, except for Kernodle, who was waiting for her food.
Authorities interviewed the DoorDash driver, who was reportedly eliminated as a suspect and helped confirm the timeline. Mogen and Goncalves had been at a local bar and grabbed pasta from a food truck around 1:45 a. m.
before heading home.
After a seven-week manhunt, Bryan Kohberger was arrested on December 30 and charged in connection with the murders. Court documents claim investigators linked him to the scene through a car matching his description, phone records placing him near the home on at least 12 occasions, and DNA from a knife sheath left behind. Kohberger has reportedly indicated through his lawyer that he plans to plead not guilty.
