A THIRD body has been found in a major US city in just three days as cops probe a string of mystery deaths.
The latest grim discovery was made on Monday afternoon, with authorities yet to reveal how the person died.
The body of a man was found near Minneapolis‘ landmark Stone Arch Bridge at around 1pm, according to officials.
University of Minnesota police responded to the area near 6th Avenue SE and SE Main Street after receiving a report of a body.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity or revealed any details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
His death came after two other bodies were discovered in Minneapolis on Saturday and Sunday – both close to water.
Police have not said there is any evidence suggesting the three deaths are connected.
The first discovery was made at around 6pm on Saturday in a wooded area near East River Flats Park, just steps from the Mississippi River.
The woman was later identified as Karen Lynn Sognesand, 56, of Maple Grove.
An obituary described Sognesand as “The most loving, caring, daughter, sister and friend” who had “left us too soon.”
It added: “Her struggle with mental health and the loss of her dad was just too much.”
Less than 18 hours later, another body was discovered along the shoreline of Bde Maka Ska.
Minneapolis Police Department officers and Park Police rushed to the east side of the lake shortly after 11.30am on Sunday.
Officials said the body was found in a “severe state of decomposition.”
The person’s identity has not been released and authorities have not revealed how they died.
Sognesand is so far the only one of the three people to have been publicly identified.
Officials have also not disclosed what they believe happened in the moments leading up to any of the deaths.
The three discoveries come as authorities separately investigate the death of another Minneapolis man whose body was recovered from the Mississippi River outside the city last week.
Timothy Standish Jr., 40, was found dead near Inver Grove Heights on Friday.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office has appealed for information about Standish, who lived in Minneapolis’ Stevens Square neighborhood.
Investigators have asked anyone who knew him or has information about his friends, associates or recent activities to come forward.
