A Florida father is desperately searching for answers after his teenage daughter vanished from their home in the middle of the night, leaving behind her beloved puppy and a trail of unsettling clues.
Richard Cover, 54, told The Post he believes his 16-year-old daughter Sophia may have been tricked into leaving their Naples home. She was last seen on surveillance footage around 12:45 a. m.
on July 31, carrying a bag packed with clothes, her favorite new Nike sneakers, and a flatiron.
Cover said nothing seemed wrong before Sophia disappeared. He described her as someone who enjoys attention, which leads him to suspect she was convinced to leave under false pretenses. “I think someone has my daughter.
That’s my best answer,” he shared.
The distraught father discovered Sophia was missing around 6:15 a. m. when he heard her 14-month-old dog crying inside her locked bedroom.
After knocking with no response, he found the door locked, which he called “weird.” He then woke his girlfriend in a panic.
Security cameras showed Sophia leaving the home with her bag in the early morning hours. Her location-sharing app had been turned off, and her phone was going straight to voicemail. Cover said the family moved back to Florida just five months ago, and Sophia was excited to start high school again in less than two weeks.
Authorities in Collier County have launched a multi-agency investigation, while Cover is leading his own search online and in the community for any clues.
What could have convinced a seemingly happy teen to disappear just before the new school year?
