A newly obtained booking video is raising questions after an Ohio mother, accused of keeping 16 children in horrifying squalor, appeared to nervously try to hide a strange mark on her arm as she was processed into jail.
Elizabeth Siders, 33, was booked at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on July 1, not long after she, her husband, and his parents were taken into custody, according to footage obtained by Plunder True Crime.
In the silent video, Siders is seen wearing a baggy red T-shirt, sweatpants, and orange flip-flops. She keeps her head down and follows officers’ instructions, but she repeatedly rubs and covers a dark mark on her left arm, the clip shows.
A second video shows Siders, now in an orange jumpsuit, sitting alone in a room in front of an officer’s desk. She appears restless and anxious, and at one point, she seems to try to wipe the same mark on her forearm against her pant leg, according to the footage.
Her attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Siders was arrested alongside her husband, Gary Siders Jr. , 37, her mother-in-law Christina Siders, 67, and father-in-law Gary Siders Sr. , 73.
Authorities descended on their Southeastern Ohio home on June 30 and found the children living in a trash and feces-filled room, reportedly confined there for at least four years.
Police described the children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old, as looking “like almost feral animals.” The scene was called “deplorable” and “third-world” by officials. Siders has reportedly denied that her children were “feral,” claiming they could all speak despite initial reports suggesting otherwise.
Several children were taken to hospitals across Ohio, with some listed in serious condition and two airlifted to trauma centers. At least one child reportedly required intubation.
Siders, her husband, and her in-laws each face 16 counts of felony child endangerment. She remains held on a $300,000 bond.
What could that mark on her arm mean, and will it play a role in the case?
