Rapper YG was briefly detained Thursday morning as authorities served a homicide search warrant on a Burbank property he owns, all part of the ongoing investigation into the 2021 stabbing death of Drakeo the Ruler, law enforcement sources confirm.
The California Highway Patrol says the 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, was present when officers arrived around 6:30 a. m. on July 23.
He was held during the search but released as soon as it wrapped up.
According to the CHP, YG is not considered a suspect or a person of interest in the murder probe. That means no charges, no arrest, just a lot of questions about why his building was on the radar.

music festival in December 2021. He was set to perform that night. The attack came nearly five years to the day before this week’s search.
The tragedy shook the hip-hop world, with tributes pouring in from Snoop Dogg and others. Drakeo’s family later filed a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation and other promoters, claiming the festival allowed a preventable death to happen.

Before his own killing, Drakeo had a complicated legal history. In 2019, he was acquitted of felony murder and attempted murder charges related to a 2016 shooting. After a mistrial on two counts, he took a plea deal and walked free in November 2020.
Now, nearly five years after his death, the investigation still has authorities digging. And YG’s name suddenly being tied to it has fans wondering what exactly the CHP is looking for.
