A Michigan mother who lost her life alongside her six children in a devastating murder-suicide had reportedly shared years earlier on Reddit that her husband was unfaithful with an intern.
On July 24, authorities say Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, shot his wife, Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39, and their six children — a 15-year-old son, a 12-year-old son, an 11-year-old son, 11-year-old twin daughters, and a 5-year-old son — inside their Grand Haven Township home. He then allegedly set the house on fire before turning the gun on himself, according to police and family.
Months before the tragedy, Mandy posted under the username “MandyK1179” on Reddit, reflecting on her marriage. She wrote that she met her husband while working as an intern — and years later, he reportedly had an 𝒶𝒻𝒻𝒶𝒾𝓇 with another intern the same age she had been.
“He was divorced and older than me … fast forward ten years and five kids, he was 𝒸𝒽𝑒𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 with the intern again,” she wrote, according to posts verified by local news outlets.
After a year of struggle, Mandy wrote that she realized she didn’t deserve to carry the pain and had always been the one to show up for herself. Still, she chose to work on the marriage for the sake of their children.
“I kept telling myself, ‘I love my kids more than I hate my husband right now,’” she shared. “We’re in a much better place 4.5 years out, but it’s still a fight to stay in a healthy place.”
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jacob Sparks told reporters the investigation will take time, adding, “This is an unspeakable tragedy, that we may never completely understand why it happened.”
Mandy, a teacher, was remembered by her parents as “a kind and devoted soul who loved her family and her students.”
