The biggest unanswered questions in University of Idaho slayings after Kohberger plea, according to ex-FBI agent

Bryan Kohberger may have pleaded guilty and escaped the death penalty, but one former FBI agent says the plea deal left a trail of spine-chilling questions that may never be answered.

According to Chris Whitcomb, who appeared on the latest episode of “Pod Force One” with Miranda Devine, the rushed end to the case means we may never know exactly what happened inside that Moscow home on November 13, 2022.

Whitcomb’s new book, “Broken Plea,” digs into alleged inconsistencies he says were never properly addressed after Kohberger agreed to a deal in July 2025.

He points to the timeline as one of the biggest head-scratchers. Prosecutors have reportedly said the entire attack on Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen took place in roughly four to five minutes.

“If all of this happened in less than four minutes, and this person is soaked in blood … how did he get out of the house?” Whitcomb asked.

The former elite FBI sniper also questioned how no blood or DNA was reportedly found inside Kohberger’s car or his apartment. According to Whitcomb, the only way that makes sense is if the ex-Ph. D.

student stripped off his clothes and drove away naked.

Another detail that reportedly stood out: Ethan Chapin’s body was found with human hair in his hand. Whitcomb says it was described as about six inches long, dark blonde to light brown with a reddish tint—characteristics that allegedly don’t match Kohberger’s hair at all.

That same hair was reportedly found again two years later by a defense expert on a blood-stained bedframe, but Whitcomb claims authorities never tested it.

He also raises questions about blood on the hallway walls appearing to be diluted, an anomaly he says suggests someone may have cleaned up the scene before investigators arrived.

“It’s a very complex case. It’s not open and shut,” Whitcomb said.

Kohberger is now serving four life sentences without parole in Idaho’s maximum security prison. Neither his defense attorney nor the Latah County prosecutor’s office commented on Whitcomb’s claims.

With no trial and no full airing of the forensic evidence, what really happened in those final five minutes may remain a mystery forever.
