Bobby Shmurda turned a crowded New York celebration into a scene that looked straight out of an action movie after he was filmed running through the Bronx while claiming a police helicopter was following him.
The footage, reportedly recorded during the Dominican Day Parade, shows the “Hot N—” rapper moving quickly through packed streets, repeatedly looking toward the sky and warning his companions that law enforcement was closing in.
“The helicopter chasing me right now,” Shmurda says in the clip as he pushes through the crowd. At another point, he admits that he is lost and claims the aerial pursuit has lasted nearly 20 minutes.
But the biggest question remains unanswered: Was the helicopter actually tracking Bobby Shmurda—or was it simply monitoring one of New York City’s largest public celebrations?
The rapper’s panic appears to intensify when he encounters officers on the ground. His tone quickly shifts from frantic bravado to nervous explanation as he insists he has done nothing wrong and apologizes after approaching nearby vehicles.
The confusion grows when Shmurda refers to a black sedan as a possible “getaway car,” shouting at members of his group to move away from it before police become suspicious. He later compares the situation to the wanted-level system in Grand Theft Auto, claiming his “five stars” had dropped to one after the helicopter appeared to leave.
There is currently no confirmed evidence that Shmurda was arrested or charged in connection with the incident.
The NYPD had not publicly established that the rapper was the subject of a targeted operation, and the helicopter may have been part of routine parade surveillance. Still, the video has sparked a heated online debate.
Some fans believe the moment reveals how closely Shmurda continues to be watched after serving six years in prison on conspiracy and weapons charges. Others argue that the footage shows fear and past trauma turning a normal police presence into something much more threatening.
Shmurda was released from prison in 2021 and has largely avoided major legal trouble since returning to public life. That history makes the video especially uncomfortable to watch.
