The courtroom fell silent as Naomi placed a small black phone beside the judge.
Mark’s face changed instantly.
“Where did you get that?” he demanded.
Naomi pressed play.
Mark’s voice filled the room.
“Once Julia signs away custody, move the rest of the money. We leave Friday night. If she fights, I’ll make sure she never sees Lily without supervision.”
Julia stopped breathing.
Friday night.
That was the same weekend Mark had asked to take their daughter on a “short trip.”
Naomi opened the red file and placed three plane tickets on the evidence table.
Mark Bennett.
Vanessa Cole.
Lily Bennett.
All booked on a private flight leaving the United States.
The judge slowly removed her glasses.
“Were you planning to take this child out of the country?”
Mark stood so quickly that his chair crashed backward.
“This is being twisted!”
Then another voice played on the recording.
Vanessa’s.
“What happens if Julia refuses to sign?”
Mark laughed.
“Take the folder. Make her angry in front of the cameras. If she stays calm, I’ll push her. We’ll say she attacked you first.”
Every reporter in the courtroom turned toward him.
Vanessa stared at Mark in horror.
“You recorded that?” he whispered.
She shook her head.
“No. You did.”
Naomi revealed that Mark’s secret phone had automatically saved every conversation. But the final recording was even worse.
In it, Mark admitted that after Vanessa transferred the hidden money, he planned to report her for theft and let her take the blame.
Vanessa’s eyes filled with rage.
“You were going to send me to prison?”
Mark reached for her arm.
She pulled away and walked toward Naomi.
“I’ll testify,” Vanessa said. “But I want protection.”
The judge immediately froze every account connected to Mark’s companies and granted Julia temporary full custody of Lily.
Two investigators entered through the courtroom doors.
For the first time, Mark looked afraid.
But just before they reached him, he leaned toward Julia and whispered:
“You still don’t know who helped me forge your signature.”
Julia froze.
Because the only other person who had access to her documents was someone she trusted completely…
Part 3 reveals the betrayal inside Julia’s own family.
