Mackenzie Shirilla has dodged potential disciplinary action from Ohio prison officials after a glamorous Instagram photo of her surfaced online. The convicted killer, who gained notoriety from the Netflix documentary “The Crash,” reportedly did not violate any prison rules, according to sources.
The photo in question, which showcased Shirilla looking polished and dolled up, was sent to a family member via a tablet system known as ViaPath. JoEllen Smith, the chief spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, clarified that incarcerated individuals do not have direct access to social media platforms through these devices.
Smith emphasized that Shirilla’s photo-sharing was compliant with prison regulations, meaning she will not face any consequences for the image. The situation was reviewed by both the Office of Victim Services and the Office of the Chief Inspector, which concluded that no rules were broken in the process.
This news comes amid heightened emotions surrounding Shirilla’s case. Earlier this week, Dominic Russo’s sister, Christine, expressed her outrage during a “TMZ Live” interview. She criticized Shirilla for seemingly reveling in her infamy following the tragic events that led to the deaths of her brother and his friend, Davion Flanagan. Christine urged the public to voice their concerns to prison authorities regarding the implications of Shirilla’s social media presence.
In 2023, Shirilla was convicted on multiple serious charges, including murder and aggravated vehicular homicide, after she deliberately crashed her car into a brick wall at a high speed. Currently, she is serving a sentence of 15 years to life, with her first chance at parole set for 2037.
