Lizzo is speaking out after facing criticism over the commercial performance of her latest album — and she’s making it clear that one disappointing moment doesn’t erase everything she has accomplished.
The Grammy-winning superstar opened up about the reaction to her new project B####, admitting that the album’s numbers affected her more than she expected because she truly believed in the music she created.
During an appearance on the “Proto Pop” podcast, Lizzo revealed that seeing the album struggle commercially was a difficult experience. The project reportedly sold just 2,649 copies in its first week and did not enter the Billboard 200, a major drop compared to her 2022 album Special, which debuted at No. 2 with 39,000 units.
“I hurt my own feelings,” Lizzo admitted while discussing the disappointment, explaining that she spent several days feeling stressed and questioning herself after seeing the results.
She said the hardest part was briefly allowing the numbers to affect how she viewed her own worth as an artist. However, she later realized that a chart position does not define her impact, especially after years of success, awards, and cultural influence.
The conversation also came after social media users revived the “Khia Asylum” meme — a phrase used online to joke about artists who were once at the top but are now facing a decline in popularity.
Lizzo pushed back against the jokes, saying the meme represents a larger issue of people using an artist’s struggles as entertainment. She argued that these conversations often target women and especially Black women in the music industry.
The singer reminded fans that her career includes multiple Grammy Awards, major records, world achievements, and a diamond-certified hit — accomplishments that cannot be erased by one album’s performance.
While her latest release may not have reached the commercial heights of her previous work, Lizzo appears focused on continuing her journey and proving that one setback does not determine the future of an artist.
