Princess Kate was surprised to meet her college boyfriend Rupert Finch at the wedding of Peter Phillips, son of Princess Anne, alongside her husband.
The wedding of Peter Phillips, 48, and Harriet Sperling took place on June 6th at All Saints Church in the Cotswolds, attended by many members of the British royal family. Among the guests were Prince William and Princess Kate, along with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Zara Tindall and her husband.
The event also marked a rare appearance by Kate with Rupert Finch, who was once believed to be her boyfriend during her time at St Andrews University.
Kate, 44, wore a pastel Roland Mouret dress, paired with a matching hat and shoes. Meanwhile, Rupert Finch, 47, attended the wedding with his wife, Natasha Rufus Isaacs. Both chose traditional attire befitting the royal wedding ceremony.
According to several sources, Kate and Rupert briefly dated in 2001 while studying at St Andrews University in Scotland. At the time, Rupert was a senior law student, a few years ahead of Kate.
This relationship is believed to have continued when Kate attended a famous fashion show at the university in 2002, where she wore a striking see-through dress that reportedly caught Prince William’s eye.
The short-lived romance between Kate and Rupert was recreated in the final season of The Crown. However, both have always kept their past private. In one rare instance, Rupert said: “That’s between me and Kate, it happened a long time ago.”
After breaking up with Rupert, Kate began a relationship with William that lasted almost a decade. The couple got engaged in 2010 and held their wedding at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. Notably, Rupert Finch was also on the guest list for the royal couple’s wedding.
Currently, William and Kate have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. This past April, they celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary with a simple family photo shared on social media.
As for Rupert, he married Natasha Rufus Isaacs in 2013. They currently have three daughters and maintain a private life, rarely appearing in the media.
