For months, the public only heard descriptions. Now, they’re seeing the evidence. Newly released court exhibits from the murder case of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf reveal the horrifying reality of what happened during a high school track meet in Texas.

The images include Austin’s fatal chest wound, the blood-soaked jacket used as friends desperately tried to save him, and the knife prosecutors say was used in the attack.
Austin died after being stabbed once in the chest during an argument under a team tent at a weather-delayed track meet. Prosecutors argued that the confrontation escalated when Karmelo Anthony pulled a knife and plunged it directly into Austin’s heart. The defense claimed self-defense, but jurors rejected that argument and convicted Anthony of murder earlier this month.
The newly released bodycam footage is just as disturbing.
Moments after the stabbing, Anthony is seen crying as officers place him in handcuffs. According to reports, he can be heard saying, “I’m not alleged. I did it,” while repeatedly asking if he would be okay.
Jurors reportedly gasped when graphic autopsy photos were shown during trial. Austin’s family was so overwhelmed by the images that some members left the courtroom. Medical testimony revealed the knife created a deep, gaping wound that pierced his chest and heart, leaving no chance of survival.
The case ignited fierce debate across the country. Supporters of Anthony insisted he acted in fear. Others argued that bringing a knife to a school sporting event and using it during an argument could never be justified. The jury reached its guilty verdict after only a few hours of deliberation and later sentenced Anthony to 35 years in prison.
But even after the verdict, the controversy hasn’t ended.
Anthony has already filed an appeal, while the release of these photos and videos has reopened painful questions for many: How did a disagreement between two teenagers end with one dead and the other facing decades behind bars?
And now that the public can finally see the evidence for themselves, the debate is only getting louder.
