Marshals' Ash Santos Breaks Down Andrea’s Difficult Finale Decision and How She's Involved in Season 2 (Exclusive)

As the gripping first season of CBS’s “Marshals” wrapped up on May 24, viewers were left pondering the fate of key characters, especially Andrea, portrayed by Ash Santos. In an exclusive interview, Santos opened up about the emotional turmoil her character faces and what fans can expect in the upcoming season.

In the finale, Andrea stands at a pivotal crossroads. After a tumultuous season filled with challenges—including a kidnapping and a heartbreaking romance with Garrett, played by Riley Green—she finally accepts the coveted job in Washington D.C. But as Santos reveals, this achievement brings its own set of doubts. “When you finally get what you’ve been wanting, do you still want it?” the 32-year-old actress mused.

Santos explained that Andrea’s journey is complex, as she grapples with leaving behind a life she has come to love in Montana. “There’s a lot she’s going through,” Santos shared. “She tries to appear unfazed, but deep down, she’s conflicted about what she might be leaving behind.”

Looking ahead to season 2, Santos hinted that viewers will witness a different side of Andrea. “We’ll start to see the cracks in her,” she teased, suggesting a shift in her character’s emotional landscape. While she couldn’t divulge too much about Andrea’s role in the new season, she assured fans that her character remains deeply connected to her team, even if it’s in spirit.

For Santos, landing the role of Andrea was a dream come true. “It’s been a big blessing in my life,” she reflected. The Bronx native, whose father is a police officer, felt an immediate connection to the character. “I felt like I was already so similar on paper to Andrea. It was one of those rare opportunities where I thought, ‘Okay, if I don’t get this, then I must be crazy.’”

One aspect of the role that surprised her was the physicality required. Santos admitted she was initially unprepared for the demanding training. “I didn’t know that I’d be as good at it as I am,” she laughed, revealing that the rigorous military-style training has boosted her confidence and showcased a new facet of her acting abilities.

As production for season 2 gears up, Santos has just completed an intense boot camp in Utah, working with a team that includes former military personnel. “It’s a lot of technical training, and it’s what real marshals go through,” she explained. Despite the challenges, she emphasized the camaraderie among the cast, noting that they often share lighthearted moments on set, even getting in trouble for laughing too much.

Santos also touched on the chemistry between her character and Luke Grimes, who reprises his role as Kayce Dutton from “Yellowstone.” While some fans speculate about a romantic connection, Santos admitted she didn’t initially see it. “Arielle was the first one to point it out to me,” she said, appreciating the subtlety in how the show develops relationships.

As for whether she supports a romance between Andrea and Kayce, Santos played it close to the vest. “There’s so much happening,” she said, hinting at unexpected twists in the storyline. “From what I know so far in season 2, there’s a lot being cooked up that will keep viewers on their toes.”

With the season 1 finale now available for streaming on Paramount+, fans are left eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for Andrea and her team. What surprises does season 2 hold for these beloved characters?
