Federal prosecutors have expanded the high-profile case involving rapper Lil Zay Osama after charging an eighth defendant in connection with a violent home invasion targeting cryptocurrency assets and cash.
Authorities announced that 19-year-old Andrew Franklin of Chicago was arrested on June 3 and charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping and conspiracy to commit robbery. If convicted, Franklin could face a potential life sentence on the kidnapping conspiracy charge, along with up to 20 additional years for the robbery conspiracy count.
According to prosecutors, Franklin was allegedly among five armed individuals who forced their way into a residence in Winnetka, Illinois, in March 2026. Investigators claim the group posed as food delivery workers before gaining entry to the home. Once inside, they allegedly restrained an adult resident and a child for more than an hour while searching the property for valuable assets.
Court filings state that the suspects specifically targeted cryptocurrency wallets, online financial accounts, cash, and safes. Authorities allege the group ultimately stole more than $111,000 worth of cryptocurrency, cash, and personal property before fleeing the scene.
Franklin becomes the eighth individual charged in the federal investigation. Other defendants previously named in the case include Dashun Brown, David Franklin, Anthony Ramsey, Khiell Dukes, Jalen Chambers, and Tyrese Fenton-Watson, among others.
Prosecutors argue the operation was carefully planned and executed, citing the use of disguises, coordinated entry tactics, and detailed knowledge of the victims’ financial holdings. Investigators believe the suspects worked together as part of a broader conspiracy designed to steal digital assets and valuables through intimidation and force.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to Lil Zay Osama’s alleged connection to the conspiracy and the growing focus on crimes targeting cryptocurrency holders. As additional arrests continue, federal authorities appear determined to hold every participant accountable.
With severe penalties attached to the charges, including the possibility of life imprisonment, the case represents one of the most serious federal criminal proceedings currently linked to the Chicago rap scene. Prosecutors maintain that the investigation remains active and additional developments could emerge as court proceedings continue.
