For years, Shania Twain was considered one of the most beautiful women in music. But behind the glamorous image and record-breaking success, the country icon says she was quietly battling insecurities that left her unhappy with the person staring back in the mirror.

Now, at 60, Twain is sharing a surprising truth: Menopause didn’t destroy her confidence. It gave it back.
In a new interview, the singer revealed that she once went to extreme lengths to stay thin, admitting she was doing “very unhealthy things” to maintain her appearance. During her Las Vegas residency in 2019, she pushed her body so hard through dieting and exercise that she became malnourished and even worsened an onstage injury.
At her lowest point, Twain says she couldn’t even look at herself.
“I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body,” she confessed, explaining that the physical changes that came with aging made her feel like she was losing control. The frustration became so overwhelming that she avoided her reflection altogether.
But everything changed as she entered menopause.
Instead of fighting every change, Twain says she slowly learned to accept that some things simply can’t be controlled. Rather than seeing menopause as an ending, she began viewing it as a chance to embrace herself in a completely new way.
Today, her attitude couldn’t be more different.
“Bring on the mirrors,” she joked, adding that she’s happier with herself now than she was decades ago. The shift in mindset even inspired her to pose nude for the cover art of her 2023 album Queen of Me, a decision she described as empowering and liberating.
Twain says she hopes her story encourages other women to stop chasing impossible standards and start appreciating themselves at every stage of life.
After decades of pressure to look perfect, the Queen of Country Pop is finally embracing a simple truth:
Confidence doesn’t come from having the body you had at 30.
Sometimes, it comes from finally loving the body you have today.
