Kelsey Asbille is ready to make waves again, stepping away from the rugged terrain of Yellowstone for her exciting new venture. After a remarkable run as Monica Long Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed franchise, Asbille is set to star in her first project since her character’s emotional exit from the series.
Asbille has been a fan favorite since the very first episode of Yellowstone, where she portrayed the resilient wife of Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes. Over the course of the series, she appeared in 52 out of 53 episodes. However, following the dramatic conclusion of Yellowstone in 2024, fans were heartbroken to learn that Monica had tragically passed away from cancer offscreen, leaving viewers with a sense of loss.
Now, Deadline reports that Asbille has landed a role in The Kellys, an action-packed film currently in production. This new project, set for a global streaming release via Amazon MGM Studios, promises to be a thrilling ride. The film features a stellar cast, including Liam Hemsworth and action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, and follows an NYPD officer who must reconcile with his estranged family to save his wife from a hostage crisis.
The screenplay for The Kellys is co-written by Tze Chun, known for his work on Gotham, alongside director Brad Peyton, who has previously collaborated with Dwayne Johnson on hits like Rampage and San Andreas. While details about Asbille’s character remain under wraps, this marks her return to the action genre after more than a decade.

Her last significant role in an action film was in 2013’s Run, where she starred alongside William Moseley. Before that, she had a minor part in The Amazing Spider-Man and appeared in a pilot for an adventure series that never aired. With The Kellys, Asbille is poised to showcase her versatility in a genre that will undoubtedly challenge her skills.
Throughout her career, Asbille has demonstrated her ability to tackle diverse roles across various genres, from teen dramas like One Tree Hill and Teen Wolf to crime dramas such as Fargo and even horror with Don’t Move. This new opportunity in The Kellys could be a pivotal moment for her, allowing her to shine as an action star.

Although her character’s demise in Yellowstone makes a return to that universe unlikely, this newfound freedom might be just what Asbille needs to explore new horizons. If The Kellys resonates with audiences and becomes a streaming success, it could solidify her status as a dynamic actress capable of taking on a wide array of characters.
As fans eagerly await her next move, one question lingers: what other surprises does Kelsey Asbille have in store for us?
