The film is set in Mississippi in the 1960s, a time of great upheaval in the civil rights movement.
A young, African-American FBI agent named Wayne Strider (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is sent to investigate the brutal murders of civil rights leaders. To solve the case, the FBI takes a groundbreaking step by forcing him to cooperate with a notorious mafia hitman named Gregory Scarpa (played by Mark Wahlberg).
This perilous hunt blurs the lines between justice and revenge. As the legal system crumbles, these two completely opposite individuals are forced to break the rules themselves.
