In a chilling turn of events, the tragic murder of Texas mom Alyssa Burkett has unveiled a web of deceit and betrayal involving those closest to her. Just a week before her death, a text message sent by her fiancé, Andrew Beard, hinted at a sinister plan, raising questions about the true nature of their relationship.
On October 2, 2020, Burkett was brutally attacked outside her workplace in Carrollton, Texas. As she parked her vehicle at the Greentree Apartments leasing office, a man in a black Ford Expedition approached and shot her through the driver’s side window. Despite sustaining a gunshot wound to the head, Burkett managed to escape her vehicle in a desperate attempt to seek help, leaving behind a bloodied handprint on the office window.
Tragically, the assailant did not relent. He pursued Burkett and inflicted 44 stab wounds before fleeing the scene. When her mother, Teresa Collard, arrived, she quickly identified Beard as a potential suspect—he was the father of Burkett’s one-year-old daughter, Willow.
Later that day, Beard was pulled over by police while driving with his fiancée, Holly Elkins, and their baby. Although he was allowed to leave the scene, officers seized his truck for further investigation. A search of Beard’s home revealed unsettling evidence, including a GPS tracker that matched one found under Burkett’s car and an unregistered gun silencer.
The following day, investigators discovered even more incriminating items in Beard’s truck, such as vials of dark makeup and cut-up hiking boots soaked in bleach. Reports indicate that Beard had purchased the black SUV used in the attack specifically for the crime.
By October 5, Beard had turned himself in to authorities, facing murder charges. His fiancée, Elkins, later spoke with detectives, claiming Beard had been home with her during the murder. However, her internet searches following the interview raised eyebrows, including queries about avoiding court appearances due to mental health issues.
As the investigation progressed, Beard was rearrested and charged with cyberstalking using a dangerous weapon resulting in death. In June 2022, he pleaded guilty and revealed Elkins’ involvement in the murder plot, stating that she had orchestrated the plan, including directives on how to disguise himself.
On May 24, 2023, Beard was sentenced to 43 years in federal prison. Meanwhile, the FBI spent nearly a year building a case against Elkins, uncovering text messages that suggested her complicity in the crime. One message, sent just days before Burkett’s murder, read, “I hope you handle it I’m not coming home to bs*.”
Elkins was arrested on July 6, 2023, after returning from a trip abroad. Her trial began in April 2024, culminating in a jury verdict that found her guilty on all counts. She was sentenced to two life terms on August 15, 2024.
As the story of Alyssa Burkett’s tragic fate continues to unfold, many are left wondering how deep the betrayal ran and what truly motivated those involved.
