Colby Covington is gearing up for a showdown that he’s been eagerly anticipating. On July 18, he will step into the ring against Arman Tsarukyan in the main event of RAF 11 in Milwaukee, and it’s not just a match for him; it’s a chance to teach Tsarukyan a lesson.

Covington’s determination to face Tsarukyan stems from a series of frustrations with the rising star’s behavior in the wrestling world. Reports suggest that the UFC has restricted its active fighters from participating in wrestling matches, prompting Covington to announce his retirement from the promotion. This bold move allows him to compete more frequently with RAF, and he recently showcased his skills by defeating former UFC champion Chris Weidman in a thrilling 5-4 victory, paving the way for his anticipated clash with Tsarukyan.

In his post-match comments at RAF 9, Covington didn’t hold back his disdain for Tsarukyan’s antics. “He’s just a fiery young man,” Covington remarked. “I just don’t like his antics. Throwing Urijah Faber, a legend of the sport, off the stage. Brawling with guys on the wrestling mat. That’s not professional. That’s not how we act in the wrestling world.”

Covington is adamant about instilling some humility in Tsarukyan, who he feels has disrespected the culture of wrestling. “You don’t come to American soil and disrespect us Americans,” he declared. “Now he’s going to have to face one of the greatest Americans that there is in the wrestling world. I plan on dunking him and giving him a wedgie like the little nerd that he is.”

Tsarukyan has certainly made waves since joining the RAF, but his journey has not been without controversy. A notable incident involved him punching Georgio Poullas post-fight, which ignited a chaotic brawl on stage. Additionally, Tsarukyan’s aggressive takedown attempt that sent Urijah Faber off the stage raised eyebrows, although fortunately, no serious injuries resulted.

Despite his rising star power, Tsarukyan’s victories have come against opponents who were often at a significant disadvantage in size and experience. Covington is keenly aware that he will be the toughest challenge Tsarukyan has faced so far, and he’s determined to put an end to Tsarukyan’s winning streak.

“I didn’t get to see Arman’s performance [at RAF 9],” Covington admitted. “I was just focusing on my match. I knew I had a dog fight in store. That’s a two-time All-American, former world champion in the UFC, one of the greatest guys. He had 20, 30 pounds on me tonight as you could see out there. I knew I was in for a dog fight.”

With the stage set for their July encounter, Covington is ready to confront Tsarukyan, who has been vocal in the lead-up to this match. “Thankful I could set up this big match with Arman. He’s been talking a lot of smack. Now there’s no more excuses. He’s got to see me on that mat July 18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.”

As the anticipation builds, fans are left wondering how this heated rivalry will unfold in the ring. Will Covington succeed in teaching Tsarukyan the lesson he seeks, or will the young star continue his ascent?
