Thundarr the Barbarian is a beloved animated television series created by Steve Gerber and produced by Ruby-Spears Productions, originally airing from 1980 to 1982 on ABC. Set two thousand years after a runaway planet tears between the Earth and the Moon and shatters civilization, the series followed the heroic barbarian Thundarr, the brilliant sorceress Princess Ariel, and the mighty Mok warrior Ookla as they rode across a post-apocalyptic Earth littered with the ruins of the old world and ruled by savage sorcerers commanding armies of mutants and machines. The show was celebrated for its extraordinary world-building, blending sword and sorcery fantasy with science fiction in a way that was genuinely unlike anything else on television at the time, and it has maintained a devoted cult following across more than four decades. No official live-action adaptation has been announced, and none of these actors are attached to any such project.

In this fan concept, Chris Hemsworth embodies Thundarr, a freed slave turned unstoppable barbarian warrior wielding the legendary Sunsword โ€” a blade of pure solar energy capable of cutting through steel and defying sorcery itself. Scarlett Johansson brings fierce intelligence and formidable power to Princess Ariel, a sorceress who carries the knowledge of the old world in her mind and the power to reshape the new one in her hands. Dwayne Johnson stands as Ookla the Mok, a towering leonine warrior of terrifying strength and unbreakable loyalty whose raw fury in battle is matched only by the depth of his devotion to his companions. Together the three ride across a broken Earth โ€” through ruined cities, dead oceans, and the scattered remnants of a civilization long forgotten โ€” protecting survivors trying to rebuild from the ashes. Mads Mikkelsen brings cold and layered menace to Gemini, a two-faced cyborg sorcerer rising from the ruins of Manhattan who commands armies of mutant soldiers and robotic Knights, his calm diplomatic face hiding a savage hunger that has crushed every opponent who ever stood against him.
