A 56-year-old woman was reportedly handcuffed outside a Massachusetts courthouse Tuesday after allegedly snapping photos of jurors in the Lindsay Clancy triple-murder trial. The arrest has stunned onlookers as the high-profile case continues to grip the nation.
Dawn Light, from Sutton, Massachusetts, was taken into custody by state police around 3:40 p. m. outside Plymouth Superior Court, according to officials.
Authorities have not officially linked the arrest to the Clancy trial, but sources told local reporters that the woman is accused of filming jurors in the case.
Jurors allegedly spotted the filming happening, according to CBS Boston reporter Kristin Rex. Light is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on a charge of intimidation of a witness, jurors, or person furnishing information in connection with criminal proceedings.
The arrest came as the jury—nine women and three men—asked to be dismissed after nearly 23 hours of deliberations. Earlier Tuesday, the panel told the judge they were deadlocked, but were instructed to keep working toward a verdict.
Legal experts now say a mistrial is likely if the jury can’t reach a unanimous decision. Veteran Boston attorney Peter Elikann noted that a deadlock was always a strong possibility in this emotionally charged case.
Clancy’s defense lawyer, Kevin Reddington, told reporters he would absolutely retry the case if it ends in a hung jury. He added that the district attorney would never drop the charges.
Reddington also said Clancy has been “sad” throughout the deliberations and doubts she could handle another trial emotionally.
The trial, which began July 20, has drawn international attention. Supporters have camped outside the courthouse, with one comparing it to the OJ Simpson case—saying it’s even bigger because of the focus on postpartum psychosis and mental illness.
Clancy, a 36-year-old former nurse, is accused of strangling her three children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan—inside their Duxbury home in January 2023. She is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming severe postpartum psychosis fueled by powerful psychiatric medications.
As the jury prepares to return Wednesday for day five of deliberations, one question lingers: will this case end in a mistrial, or will a verdict finally bring closure to a story that has captivated the world?
