She told me she was going out with Joe. She said she’d be home before my training session ended. It was a Sunday. I got home at seven.

She never came home. Her car was still in the driveway. He had come to pick her up. I stayed up all night, ready to end things the moment she walked through the door.
But she never came home. At 11:30, she sent me a message: “We need to talk. ”
I knew what was coming. I asked her not to break up with me over social media.
I left. Thirty minutes later, she and Joe were at my house together. This is what she did to me after three and a half years together. I’m a 21-year-old police officer.
She’s 20. I met Joe two years ago at the gym where we both train. We became friends over our shared passion for the sport. I was in a relationship with my girlfriend, let’s call her Jane, for over a year at that point.
Jane always insisted on coming to my training sessions. She’d been watching me train for nearly a year when I started noticing changes. The way she looked at Joe. The way she acted around him.
Joe was one of the simplest people I’ve ever met. Nothing about him stood out. I provided security, loyalty, and opportunities through our relationship. But I went through a rough patch.
I quit my job because of mistreatment, so I was unemployed for about two months. During that time, I found out she was talking to him on social media and meeting him behind my back. He would pick her up from our house and take her places, and I never knew. She started going to the gym with him.
Lunch dates. Paddleboarding. Watching sunsets together on multiple occasions. Sending him intimate photos.
I found out about the photos because she sent them to me too and told me she had sent them to him. I set a very clear boundary. I said: “If you don’t remove him from everything and stop seeing him, we’re done. ”
In response, she turned off her location, ignored me more and more, refused to go out or do anything with me.
She refused any form of physical affection. No sex. No holding hands. No kisses.
No hugs. At that point, I already knew what was coming. I was helping coach kids when she texted me: “I’m going out with Joe. I’ll be home before you finish.
”
I got home at seven. She never came back. When she finally sent that message saying we needed to talk, I went over to her place. I told her I didn’t want her to break up with me over text.
She agreed to meet nine times face to face. She didn’t show up for any of them. Instead, she ignored me for two days, claiming she was afraid I would hurt her or yell at her in person. I assured her I had never done that in my life.
Not with her, not with anyone I’d ever known. After she kept avoiding me, I finally had enough. I texted her: “Meet me at the park at exactly seven. If you don’t show up, I’ll leave and I’ll block you everywhere.
”
She didn’t reply. I got there at 6:30. I waited 30 minutes. The moment it hit seven, I sent her a message: “I waited 30 minutes and you didn’t show up.
I’ll put the spare keys in the mailbox. Goodbye. ”
Then the messages started pouring in. “You said around seven, not exactly seven.
”
I told her to read my message again. Then I blocked her everywhere. Remember, I had known Joe for two years. We trained together.
I invited him into my home. We drank together. We went out together. We did so many things together.
He just used all of that to sneak into my life. I know Jane is a narcissist. I was stupid not to notice it earlier. But somewhere deep down, I knew the whole time while watching them interact that this was going to happen.
I just knew it. They were together for six months before I found out. For more than six months, they were behind my back doing god knows what. After three weeks, they were showing up together every day, posting photos of each other on their stories.
I’ve blocked them since. But I knew through mutual friends. I told them not to tell me anything anymore. Joe tried to get to me through those mutual friends to ask me to unblock him.
He said he was ready to clear the air and fix things. Yet when he comes to training, he doesn’t dare look me in the eye. He doesn’t talk to me. He’s afraid to even come near me alone.
After the break-up, Joe was telling everyone that I used to hit her and that I had a drinking problem. But he’s too scared to talk to me face to face. I’m a police officer. I’ve never hit anyone.
I don’t take drugs. I don’t drink much alcohol. She’s 90% of the problem, he’s 10%. But I can’t wrap my head around how people can behave this way, especially with their partner and their closest friend.
I never would have dreamed of doing something like this to anyone in my life. I know I’ll be fine without her. Everyone says so. But the question I keep asking is: why didn’t she just end it earlier?
Why did she make me spend a year in uncertainty and hell? Why did she make me sit there wondering where she was, why she couldn’t respect a simple boundary and drop one person to improve our relationship? Why did she ignore me mentally and physically for all that time? Why did she make me feel like I was doing everything wrong, like I was useless, like I couldn’t do anything right?
Why do you make the person you’re supposed to love feel like a burden, like the worst human being to exist? She would say almost every day that she was ready to put effort into the relationship and work together. We rarely argued. We never yelled at each other for the entire duration of our relationship.
But when I asked her to cut ties with Joe because their friendship was weird, she would defend herself and say the usual: “You’re insecure, you’re being low-class, you never let me have any friends. ”
Classic narcissistic cheating signs. She got pregnant. Right before our break-up or in the same week.
She’s currently 12 weeks pregnant. He has no idea what’s coming. Within three months of our break-up, she and Joe moved in together. They post about it everywhere on social media.
They have a baby on the way. The chance that it’s mine is 0%. Their relationship is built on the illusion that the grass is greener on the other side. That won’t last.
I’d bet money on it. They have no chance. What they’re doing looks like a desperate attempt to convince everyone they’re a happy couple, and I know it’s going to fail. People say she cheated because I was too easy.
I understand that women need constant emotional stimulation or excitement or whatever trivial thing. But I treated my partner as a partner, not as a whore I found somewhere. Isn’t your partner supposed to be a refuge from stress and problems? Honestly, I attribute her betrayal to her big issues with her father, the lack of a male role model, no discipline for her bad behavior, and narcissistic manipulation.
If things weren’t done exactly her way, it was entirely my fault. She constantly needed to enforce her opinion even when it was wrong. Maybe I’m wrong here? But I highly doubt it.
I know no one is perfect. But I never hit her. I never yelled at her. I never treated her badly.
I cooked. I cleaned. I worked up to ten hours a day to support her and more. I don’t understand it.
I can’t help but feel disgusted. It’s brutal. Now, seven months have passed since everything happened. I’ve gone through every emotion and learned more from this experience than I ever imagined.
It might sound strange to say this, but I think I needed it to happen. Everything I knew from my previous life was violently and abruptly ripped away from me. Everything I was used to—my routine, the people I thought were my friends. During that time, I found out who truly stood by me.
Having everything I was comfortable with torn away like that really opened my eyes to the world around me. The truth is, I was just a naive person who thought life was all sunshine and roses. I thought my life was perfect, and that if I lived it that way, no harm would ever come to me. But I was wrong.
Good things happen to bad people. Bad things happen to good people. But I’m grateful for the support I had. Things could have gone differently.
Because of the way I treat people, like I want to be treated, people didn’t find it hard to stand by me and expose her lies when she tried to spread rumors that I was an alcoholic and abusive. The truth is, I didn’t have to change anything, or even defend myself as much as I thought I would. People knew who I really was and knew she was lying. I’m grateful for that every day.
I think having my old life stripped away was exactly what I needed. I’m still only 21, and since all this happened, my life has really just begun. I kept up with my training, and now I’m actually starting to win competition rounds. I have a promising job offer and a full list of goals I want to accomplish in the coming years.
It might sound immature, but the truth is, they really are losers. I see them at training sometimes. My mind tells me to scream and get angry, but honestly, I just feel pity for them. I don’t care about them at all anymore.
I have my own life to live and my own goals to achieve. They destroyed a weak side of me trying to destroy me completely, but instead, they shaped someone more dedicated to helping others and determined to improve in every part of my life. It’s funny how things work out. How an event that derailed my life could change my whole dynamic toward wanting to improve and grow.
Even though I still struggle to get good sleep, I thank everyone who helped me every day. The stories I told only cover a small part of the psychological and emotional abuse. For those who are curious, I heard from people close to them that she’s completely controlling him now. His life is literally over.
His family threatened to call the police if he went back to their house. The last thing I heard is that she’s escalating her behavior a lot. For someone who was so concerned about his physical appearance, I find it a little funny. I knew the universe would balance things out.
People I didn’t know I could count on showed up for me. I’m grateful for that every day. When all this started, I was so angry, distracted, and frustrated. The way I talked about them in my earlier posts doesn’t reflect who I truly am.
It was a sad attempt to process my feelings. Although venting helped me, speaking that way wasn’t helpful. I’ll try not to lose hope in love. I know there’s someone out there, but they’ll have to wait until I get through this and process my emotional baggage.
The coming days will be better. It’s crazy to think my first post was 153 days ago. So much time has passed and I haven’t achieved much to show for it. I was surviving on one meal a day, but I guess that’s acceptable.
I’m eating more now. I have a lot to work toward. This was the outcome with a full support network. For those who lack that, I can only imagine what you’re going through.
Please stay strong. Better times are coming. Thank you for all the support. The accusation of being “too easy” seems like a way to justify her own choices.
She cheated on you and got pregnant, and now they’re both stuck in this mess. It’s not hard to feel a sense of justice watching them fall apart. I don’t blame you. Betrayal is a choice.
No amount of emotional support or easiness justifies it. You did your part, but she couldn’t even meet you halfway. You shouldn’t feel guilty for not being someone else’s emotional fix. Their trauma is not your responsibility.
Never.
