Five years. I had the ring picked out, her size memorized, and the proposal planned. Then one random Instagram message from a club promoter named Devon shattered everything, because he slept with...

She said the photo was AI. I knew it wasn’t, and I made sure the whole world knew it too. We had been together for five years. Anna and I met right after college, working at the same company.

We didn’t talk much at first, but a shared project brought us together, and after I left that job, we started dating. I knew her family, she knew mine. We traveled together. The only step left was marriage, and I was already preparing for it.

I knew her ring size, the kind of ring she liked, and exactly what she hated seeing in a proposal. I loved her, and I believed she loved me the same way. I was wrong. In the weeks before everything fell apart, nothing about Anna seemed off.

We had the occasional couple’s argument, but nothing more. When we were together, she was affectionate, and I assumed she felt the same loyalty I felt for her. I never suspected she had eyes for anyone else. I projected my own feelings onto her, and that was my mistake.

You can love someone completely and still have them betray you without a single clue. I didn’t discover the truth through my own intelligence or instinct. It was pure luck, and that hurt more than anything, because it meant it could have gone on forever. I was scrolling through Instagram when I noticed a message request from a man named Devon.

From his profile, I could tell he was a club promoter who lived in the same city as us. His message was vague, but he said he had something important to tell me. I accepted the request and told him to go ahead. Hours later, he replied.

He said he was telling me this out of respect, not to boast or humiliate me, but because she had slept with him. He wanted me to know the truth about the person I was with. My head spun. I didn’t want to believe him, but just considering the possibility was enough to ruin my entire mood.

I asked him for proof. He said he didn’t have proof of the actual hookup, but he gave me a date and the name of the club where it happened. He sent me a photo from the club’s photographer, one he said he was friends with. The picture didn’t prove cheating, but it showed her at the club, his arm around her, holding a bottle, and she looked happy to be there.

That was the problem. Anna had always loved clubs and parties when I first met her, but I made it clear I wasn’t a fan of that lifestyle. As our relationship got more serious, she convinced me she had changed. I genuinely believed her.

But here was proof she was still sneaking off to clubs, and I had no idea. I checked my old messages with her from that night. She had gone silent around 10:00 p. m.

and returned the next morning claiming she fell asleep from exhaustion. I believed her without question. I was oblivious, and I paid for it. The next day, I met Devon.

It started awkward, but eventually I asked what I needed to know. He told me he was a club promoter, always there most nights. He hooked up with girls frequently, he admitted, but she hadn’t seemed like the type who had a boyfriend, so he never asked. When they went back to his place, they had champagne, made out in the living room, then moved to the bedroom.

He didn’t want to give me the details, but I insisted. I told him I needed to know everything so I wouldn’t be a coward and consider taking her back. He said he had tried to find her afterward because he wanted to see her again, but they never exchanged socials. He got the photo from his photographer friend and asked around.

Someone recognized her, and that person also knew me. They mentioned she had a boyfriend. He thought about whether to tell me, and in the end, he decided to reach out because he had been cheated on himself and wished someone had warned him. I thanked him and left.

I was going straight to Anna. When she opened her door, she didn’t notice anything was off. I didn’t plan anything. There was no point in holding back since we weren’t married.

I asked her when she had last gone to a club. I could see her thinking, trying to figure out the right answer. She said it had been a few weeks, which was close enough to the date Devon gave me. The right answer.

I asked why she hadn’t told me, and how many times she had snuck off without my knowing. She said she didn’t tell me because she knew I didn’t like it. She said nothing bad ever happened, and she didn’t want to deal with me being upset over nothing. She apologized, said she just wanted to have fun.

But she never answered my second question. When I pressed her, she admitted she couldn’t count how many times. I asked if it was a lot. She nodded.

That alone was enough for me to end things. I can’t be with someone I can’t trust. But I still had to ask if there was anything else I should worry about. Anything that happened during one of those club visits.

She shook her head. “Absolutely nothing. ”

I pulled out the photo of her with Devon and asked her to explain it. “That’s not me,” she said, faster than I expected.

So fast that, for a second, I doubted myself. But the top she was wearing was one I had seen before. I knew it was her. Still, she swore it wasn’t.

I showed her another photo of her wearing the same blouse. She hesitated, then said, “I can see how it looks like me, but I swear it isn’t. ”

Then she switched tactics. She got irate.

She said I was supposed to trust her. She said the photo was probably AI generated by someone who didn’t like her. “Maybe. I don’t know, but it’s not me.

I swear. ”

She planted a tiny bit of doubt in my mind. But I knew it was her. Her entire defense was the AI excuse, and that made me angrier than anything.

I told her I didn’t believe her. I told her the man she slept with had told me everything, and that’s how I knew despite how well she hid it. I told her her sneaking off and the ease with which she slept with him was why I was ending things. She looked surprised, which was ridiculous.

There was no other possible outcome once the reason for my visit became clear. I gathered my things from her place and told her I would send her belongings in a few days. I warned her not to come to my place. I couldn’t predict how I would react.

She started crying as she watched me pack, finally realizing I meant it. That made me angry. You cheat for the momentary thrill, but when you lose a good man, suddenly you regret your choices? Why wasn’t I enough while it mattered?

She wanted to live that life, so she got to. I was just glad this wasn’t a divorce, because I would have been trying to take everything she had, and I would have been in far more pain. Instead, I was just done. I sent her stuff back and became a single man.

It still stung. But it was what it was. Weeks passed, and the pain didn’t fade the way I hoped. The betrayal began to sink in deeper, and my frustration grew.

One night, I got very drunk alone in my apartment, drowning in the unfairness of it. She had lied to me repeatedly, cheated on me, felt zero remorse, and when I caught her, she claimed the evidence was AI. She got off with a breakup, which I also suffered, even though I did nothing wrong. I realized I couldn’t just let her get away with it.

She needed to feel some of the pain she caused me. The club photo wasn’t something I would get in trouble for posting. So I decided to spread the word about the kind of woman she was. I started by sending the picture to her parents and siblings.

I attached the photo and told them the entire story, including the date it was taken and the fact that we were still together. I told them she lied to me about going to bed early while she was out with another man. On a whim, I sent the photo to other people she knew. Then I posted it on my Instagram story with a sarcastic caption about how far AI had come, because it looked like my ex was out with another man, but since it was just AI, everything was fine.

I posted the same thing on X. The response was overwhelming, but I didn’t answer anyone. I just wanted her business immortalized on the internet. That evening, she showed up at my house, furious.

She got in my face, screaming, pushing me, poking my chest hard enough that if she were a man, I would have hit her already. She called me a b*stard and said I wasn’t a real man, that I used b*tch-made tactics to get back at her. She said if I wanted to prove I was a man, I should have cheated on her too, not act petty like a woman. She threatened me to delete the posts, giving me an ultimatum.

I just shook my head. I waited until she finished, then I grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and dragged her out of my front door. I told her I had gotten even, and I never wanted to see her again. If she showed up again, I would get a restraining order.

I haven’t seen her since. I wish I had found a more satisfying form of revenge, but I know it wasn’t worth the effort. I’m trying not to care about her anymore. Maybe I’ll post the picture again someday if I feel angry enough.

For now, I’m just trying to heal from the mess she made of my life. I think I’m making progress.
