Lewis Hamilton’s frustrations with Ferrari boiled over during the Dutch Grand Prix in a way that stunned even F1 legend David Coulthard. The seven-time world champion finished fourth at Zandvoort but was reportedly furious with his team’s strategy, which he felt cost him a shot at the podium.
Running behind teammate Charles Leclerc with fresher tires, Hamilton found himself stuck. His anger spilled out over the team radio with a sarcastic jab: “Great way of wasting time guys, good job.”
But it didn’t stop there. Ferrari kept Hamilton out on track so long while leading that rival teams reportedly wondered if they’d even bring him in for a pit stop. That plan quickly unraveled when Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli easily passed him.
Hamilton’s voice grew sharper as he nearly swore, asking: “Are you using me as a guinea pig or what the f… what’s going on?” He finally pitted under a virtual safety car but couldn’t pass George Russell in the closing laps.
After the race, Hamilton pointed to how swiftly Mercedes moved Russell out of Antonelli’s way. “It’s not the same here,” he said, visibly frustrated. “I’m here to win.”
Coulthard, speaking on the Up to Speed podcast, admitted he’d never heard Hamilton that angry. “I’ve never heard him raise his voice,” he said, while co-host Naomi Schiff noted the driver almost swore—something he rarely does.
