A pregnant woman carrying twins was allegedly dragged back into a Kentucky home and brutally attacked, leaving her with life-threatening injuries that required an emergency C-section, according to police reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded Thursday in Louisville when a heated argument reportedly turned violent. Court documents obtained by local NBC affiliate WAVE claim that 31-year-old Desmond Potts began shoving his forehead into the victim’s forehead before slamming her onto a couch.
A 9-year-old child tried to intervene by jumping on Potts’ back, but the man allegedly grabbed the boy by the neck and pinned him against a wall, according to the documents.
When the pregnant woman attempted to escape, Potts allegedly pulled her back inside the home, held a knife to her stomach, and threatened to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 her and her unborn children, police say. He then reportedly dragged her around the house, slammed her onto the floor, and later pulled her down a flight of stairs outside.
The 9-year-old reportedly tried to stop the attack again, this time with another child present, and was allegedly pinned against another wall by the back of the neck.
A neighbor heard the commotion and called police. When officers arrived, the victim had fainted and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors found a ruptured placenta and a serious liver laceration, leading to an emergency C-section.
The 9-year-old also reported neck pain, according to WAVE.
Potts was arrested Friday and faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault (child 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮), third-degree terroristic threatening, and menacing. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 31.
