Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard Prepare for Major Military Move by Finding a New Home for Their Family Dog

Jill Duggar and her husband, Derick Dillard, are facing a major transition as their family prepares to leave Arkansas and begin a new chapter connected to Derick’s military career. But the move comes with a difficult decision: the couple is looking for a new home for their beloved dog, Fenna.

The family adopted Fenna in 2021, but Derick recently revealed that they will not be able to take the dog with them during their upcoming relocation. The decision has sparked a strong reaction online, with some people criticizing the couple while others argued that finding Fenna another home may ultimately be the most responsible option.

According to a screenshot shared on Reddit from a local Facebook group near the family’s Arkansas home, Derick posted that he and Jill were searching for someone who could rehome Fenna before their military move.

The situation appears to be connected to the temporary housing arrangements the family will face during Derick’s training. According to comments attributed to Derick in the Facebook discussion, the couple would not be permitted to keep Fenna in their temporary accommodations and could potentially have to wait at least eight months before they were able to have the dog with them again.

That explanation did little to prevent criticism from some people online. Several commenters questioned why the family could not find another solution that would allow them to keep their pet.

Others, however, said the decision should be viewed in the context of the family’s circumstances. Some military families noted that while pets can often accompany service members during relocations, that is not necessarily the best option in every situation.

One Reddit user who identified as a military spouse with decades of experience argued that an animal’s well-being should come before the desire to keep the pet at all costs. The commenter suggested that a dog may be better off in a stable home where it receives consistent attention rather than being placed in an uncertain environment with a family adjusting to military life and temporary housing.

Derick has pursued several different career paths throughout their marriage, including working as an accountant at Walmart, serving as an assistant district attorney in Oklahoma and spending time in education.

He has now completed training to become a military lawyer, taking on a career that will bring a very different lifestyle for the entire family.

For Jill, the transition means adjusting to life as a military wife while continuing to care for the couple’s children and adapting to repeated relocations and the demands that come with Derick’s new role.

Some people discussing the family’s situation online questioned how Jill would handle the changes, particularly because military life can involve strict schedules, temporary assignments and periods when spouses have limited control over where or when their families move.

One commenter expressed hope that Fenna would find a home where the dog could receive plenty of exercise, attention and affection.

At the same time, other commenters pushed back against the criticism of Jill and Derick, arguing that outsiders may not know all the circumstances surrounding the decision to rehome the dog.

The couple has already indicated that their family will be leaving Arkansas as part of what they have described as their “next big adventure.” Their plans involve several moves while Derick completes his military training.

Jill Duggar confesses she almost ended her marriage to Derick DillardAccording to the family’s blog announcement, after Derick’s 10 weeks of intensive training at OCS, Jill and the children are expected to join him in Virginia before the family relocates to Rhode Island for the remainder of his training.

That means the family will spend considerable time moving between different locations before their new military life settles into a more permanent routine.

With so much uncertainty ahead, the decision to find Fenna another home appears to be one of the difficult compromises the family is making during the transition.

For Jill and Derick, the coming months will bring a new career, new locations and a completely different family routine. And for Fenna, the next chapter will begin with a new home of her own.
