A Florida mother’s desperate final act to save her kids has left the internet heartbroken—and it all unfolded in a matter of minutes.
According to authorities, the 47-year-old Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Troy Savetz, was waiting outside the woman’s Hudson home Monday evening. She had just returned from the beach with her two children, ages 9 and 12, when a heated argument broke out over a TV Savetz reportedly wanted back.
Witnesses say the woman, who had been in an on-off, “tumultuous” relationship with the deputy, urged her children to run inside and call 911. As she tried to call for help herself, Savetz allegedly grabbed her phone.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco shared a powerful message during a press conference, speaking directly to the kids. “We know that your mother said to go inside, save your lives, and call 911… Your mom is looking down from heaven, and she is so proud of you.”
Police arrived around 5:30 p. m. , but the couple was already gone.
Savetz had allegedly kidnapped the woman in a rental car. Officers tracked the vehicle to Spring Hill, about six miles away, around 7 p. m.
Inside, both were found dead from gunshot wounds in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.
The victim’s name has not been released. Her children are now with their biological father.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri condemned the deputy’s actions, stating, “The moment this individual committed a crime he was no longer a law enforcement officer. He was a criminal.”
Savetz had served with the department for 14 years in the marine unit. The case continues to raise questions about how a relationship could spiral so far—so fast.
