Timothy Busfield is adamantly defending himself against serious allegations of inappropriate behavior involving twin child actors. During a recent grand jury session in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Emmy-winning actor and director, now 69, expressed his innocence with a powerful declaration: “I didn’t do this. I have never, ever been inappropriate.”
Busfield, who has worked on the series “The Cleaning Lady” from 2022 to 2025, faces four counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor under the age of 13. In audio recordings obtained by the Daily Mail, he passionately maintained his stance over two hours of testimony, stating, “I have never, ever been inappropriate in any way, physically, sexually in any way with a child, a prepubescent little boy. I am not attracted to that.”
With tears in his eyes, Busfield described the profound impact these allegations have had on his life and career. He claimed that the accusations stem from a desire for revenge by the boys’ mother after their roles were reduced. “She wanted revenge and she got it,” he said, expressing his devastation over the situation.
While acknowledging that he had physical contact with the boys during filming, Busfield insisted that it was never inappropriate. He described a close relationship with the twins and their family, noting that they often referred to him as “Uncle Tim.” “Did I have my arms around those boys?
Absolutely,” he explained. “But did I ever touch them inappropriately? Never ever once.”
Busfield emphasized that he was never alone with the child actors and that there were always numerous witnesses present during their interactions on set. At one point, he reflected on the seriousness of the situation, admitting, “I’m nervous… This is all very real and the stakes are very high.”
He also stated that he has no recollection of the alleged incidents, telling the grand jury, “I don’t remember ever kissing either one of those boys.” Furthermore, he claimed he could provide evidence to support his innocence, including audio recordings of the twins stating they were not inappropriately touched.
Despite taking a lie detector test, Busfield was informed that such results are typically not admissible in court. He argued that committing such acts on a television set would be tantamount to “career suicide,” adding, “I’ve never done that to anybody.”
The actor explained that the twins were ultimately let go from “The Cleaning Lady” due to their aging out of their roles, a situation complicated by COVID-related contract renegotiations. An investigation into the allegations began in November 2024 after a staff member at the University of New Mexico Hospital raised concerns about potential grooming, although no evidence of 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 was reportedly found.
Following his arrest in January, Busfield was released without bail and formally indicted in February. He has been married to former “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert since 2013, and she has publicly supported him throughout this ordeal.
Busfield is set to face trial on May 10, 2027. As the case unfolds, many are left wondering how it will impact his legacy in the entertainment industry.
