In a recent episode of Chris Cuomo’s Crime Time podcast, Natalie Shirilla expressed deep concern for her daughter’s mental state, revealing that Mackenzie has not been able to see any evidence or details surrounding her case. “It’s almost like she’s trapped in a nightmare that she has no memory of,” Natalie shared on June 24. “All she knows is that the boyfriend that she loved with her whole heart is gone and Davion is gone.”
Mackenzie, who is featured in the Netflix documentary The Crash, was found guilty of multiple serious charges, including four counts of murder and aggravated vehicular homicide. As her mother explained, the emotional toll of the situation is evident in Mackenzie’s artwork, which she creates to cope with her circumstances. “She does self-portraits where she has a rose of thorns around her neck or her mouth sewn shut,” Natalie described, emphasizing the confusion and pain reflected in her daughter’s work.
The podcast episode aired just a day after the Ohio Supreme Court denied Mackenzie’s latest appeal, leaving her family grappling with the harsh reality of her situation.
