The sheriff’s office announced on July 14 that they have received reports of 𝒻𝒶𝓀𝑒 QR codes circulating online, which falsely claim to be associated with Nancy’s case. “The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will never request money related to this investigation,” the statement emphasized, urging the community to avoid sending money or scanning unknown QR codes. They encouraged anyone who encounters such posts to report them immediately.
Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has been leading the investigation since Nancy’s disappearance in February, revealed that the warning was prompted by sightings of a truck in Tucson displaying an AI-modified image of a woman in a mask, soliciting help for the investigation. This is not the first instance of scams linked to Nancy’s case. Earlier this month, a man from California named Derrick Callella pleaded guilty to harassment charges for allegedly contacting Nancy’s family about a bitcoin transfer.

Despite the ongoing investigation, which has yet to yield any suspects or arrests, authorities have obtained doorbell camera footage showing a masked intruder at Nancy’s home in the early hours of February 1. The FBI is actively involved in the case, and they, along with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Savannah Guthrie returned to her hosting duties on the Today show in April after taking time off to support her family during this challenging period. Although she recently enjoyed a summer break, her absence from the show was not connected to her mother’s case.
