Anonymous tip claimed Nancy Guthrie 'grave' found in Mexico — sparking massive search

An anonymous tip has ignited a significant search operation in Mexico for Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old woman who mysteriously vanished from her Tucson home earlier this year. The tip suggested that she may be buried in an unmarked grave near the Nogales border, prompting a dedicated group to take action.

Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, the leader of Buscando Corazones Nogales, shared that they received this crucial information on Wednesday. Guthrie was reportedly abducted from her residence in the Catalina Foothills on February 1, raising concerns as the investigation into her disappearance remains unresolved.

The search team scoured the area indicated by the anonymous source, which is known as “Mariposa,” or butterfly in English. This location has a troubling history, as the group had previously discovered 25 unmarked graves in the vicinity. Unfortunately, their latest efforts yielded no results in locating Guthrie, according to Ayala Ortiz in an interview with El Imparcial.

Despite this setback, the organization remains committed to continuing their search efforts. They plan to return to the Mariposa area, which lies northwest of Nogales, to pursue leads not only for Guthrie but for other missing individuals as well.

Ayala Ortiz recounted the details of the tip, stating that it claimed Guthrie’s remains were located in a grave near a stream. The search operation was bolstered by the Sonora State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons, with local authorities providing necessary security to ensure the safety of the volunteers involved.

As the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance continues, no arrests have been made, and new leads have yet to surface. The mystery surrounding her case deepens, leaving her family and the community yearning for answers.
