Texas Sisters Charged With Murder After Mother of Five Fatally Stabbed in Broad Daylight
Two young sisters in Texas have been charged with murder after a 32-year-old mother of five was fatally stabbed in broad daylight, according to police.
Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, and Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, were arrested in Del Rio, Texas, hours after authorities say Caroline “Caro” Peña was repeatedly stabbed on Thursday. A third woman, Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, was also taken into custody in connection with the killing.
The Del Rio Police Department said all three women were charged with murder and transported to a local jail. Authorities have not publicly released a motive.

Arrest Video Draws Public Attention
Video filmed outside the Diaz sisters’ home showed police escorting the women into patrol cars after the alleged attack.
Kitty Diaz was seen barefoot and wearing black shorts and a black halter top as officers led her to a police vehicle. Her younger sister, Amaya Diaz, also appeared in the footage as she was placed into a cruiser.
The video drew attention online because the sisters appeared to smile and laugh as they were being arrested. At one point, Amaya allegedly shouted “Stop recording!” at the person filming before smiling toward the camera.
Michael Elizondo, an independent journalist in Del Rio, said he went to the home after hearing about heavy police activity in the area. He said he did not initially know what the women were being arrested for, but realized the situation appeared serious because multiple police cars were outside the residence.
According to Elizondo, one of the sisters appeared to be “smiling” and “goofing off” as officers took her away.

Victim Later Died at Hospital
Police said Peña was attacked in Del Rio before later dying from her injuries at a hospital in San Antonio around 9 p.m.
Footage reportedly showed a bleeding Peña confronting three attackers outside a Sonic drive-through before she died. Authorities later traced the location of the attack to an address in Del Rio, a city of roughly 35,000 residents near the Mexican border.
Peña, known as Caro, was a mother of five. Her death has prompted shock and grief among those who knew her and among residents following the case online.
Three Women Face Murder Charges
Amaya Diaz, Kitty Diaz and Kyandra Faz have each been charged with murder, according to police.
The department has not publicly detailed what led to the stabbing or whether the women had any prior relationship with Peña. Investigators have also not released additional information about the alleged motive.
Mugshots released by authorities showed the three suspects after their arrests.
Kitty Diaz’s social media reportedly indicates she is the mother of a young son. Earlier this month, she posted a TikTok clip of the child and wrote that her son was about to turn four years old and remained an only child.

Community Searches for Answers
The killing has left many in Del Rio searching for answers as police continue the investigation.
The video of the arrests has added to public outrage, with viewers reacting strongly to the women’s apparent demeanor while being taken into custody. However, the suspects have not yet been convicted, and the case will now move through the legal system.
For Peña’s family, the focus remains on the loss of a mother whose life ended in a violent attack.
Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation continues.
