The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has concluded that a medical staff member attempted to sell Princess Kate’s medical records to profit from her 2024 surgery.

The ICO has closed its investigation into the leak of Kate’s medical records at London Clinic, where she received treatment in early 2024.
According to the conclusion published on June 17th, a medical staff member intentionally accessed sensitive medical information belonging to the Princess of Wales and attempted to disclose it to a third party for financial gain. The ICO stated that this behavior constituted “a deliberate misuse of particularly sensitive personal data” and a “serious breach of trust.”
The individual was dismissed following an internal hospital investigation and received a formal warning. The ICO deemed this appropriate and proportionate disciplinary action.
Ian Hulme, the ICO’s supervisory director, emphasized: “People have the right to trust that the personal information they provide to healthcare facilities is secure and not exploited. When that trust is broken, we have a responsibility to act.”

He affirmed that the agency would not hesitate to pursue criminal prosecution if necessary.
A representative from London Clinic said the incident was “sad but isolated” and asserted that the hospital had not violated any regulatory rules.
Princess Kate, 44, was hospitalized in January 2024 for abdominal surgery. Two months later, she publicly announced she had cancer and began treatment. After spending much of 2024 out of the public eye, Kate announced in early 2025 that her condition had gone into remission.
In May of this year, the Princess of Wales embarked on a tour of Italy with the British royal family, marking her first overseas trip since announcing her cancer diagnosis.
