Bonnie Tyler wakes up from coma in Portuguese hospital after ‘suffering cardiac arrest’ as team issue update on health
Her team have given an important update on the 75-year-old star’s health.
A rep for the Total Eclipse Of The Heart singer said: “Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill.”
“Although her condition is improving, the recovery process is slow.”
The star is still in intensive care in Faro, in southern Portugal.
Doctors expect her to make a full recovery, but she remains in serious condition.
In April, the Welsh singer began to feel intense abdominal pain shortly after arriving in Portugal, where she has a second home, following inconclusive tests in London.
Bonnie was rushed to hospital with a serious tear in her bowel and had to have emergency surgery.
But in May, complications from the operation meant doctors had to place the singer in an induced coma.
Portuguese media claimed Bonnie went into cardiac arrest when doctors first tried to bring her out of her induced coma several weeks ago.
Bonnie, who was born in Mumbles in south Wales, reportedly suffered a serious infection after the op.
All of Bonnie’s planned concerts until the end of August have been scrapped.
Her management released a statement thanking fans for their support.
It said: “We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous sympathy and support from around the world.”
Bonnie is best known for her No1 hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart in 1983 and had four other Top Ten hits including It’s A Heartache and Holding Out For A Hero.
The star, who has been married to property developer Robert Sullivan since 1973, competed at the Eurovision Song Contest representing the UK in 2013, coming in 19th with her song Believe In Me.
She then released her 18th studio album, The Best Is Yet To Come, in 2021.
That year, she opened up about ageing and said she credits her looks to regular Botox injections.
It said: “We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous sympathy and support from around the world.”
The 80s legend said: “I’ve been having Botox twice a year, for many years, darling.
“I haven’t had the opportunity since the Christmas before last. But I’m doing all right. I’m quite fit for my age, thank God.
“And I’m never going to retire. I look at Tom Jones. He’s amazing.
His voice is as strong as ever — and he’s got ten years on me.”
