In a chilling revelation, Mackenzie Shirilla reportedly expressed her deep devotion to her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, saying she “would die for him” just two years before a tragic crash took both their lives. This unsettling text message emerged recently from a significant release of phone records by the Strongsville Police Department in Ohio.
The couple’s tumultuous relationship was laid bare in over 32,000 messages, showcasing a series of heated exchanges leading up to the fatal incident. In one particularly alarming text, Shirilla urged Russo to “treat the girl who would die for you a little better,” hinting at the emotional turmoil they faced.
Their communication history revealed a pattern of conflict, with Russo reportedly claiming that Shirilla had physically assaulted him and even attempted to throw a rock at him. Just months before the crash, he cautioned her about her reckless driving, describing it as “maniacal.”

Tragically, their story took a devastating turn in July 2022. Shirilla, then 17, allegedly accelerated her Toyota Camry to a staggering 100 mph, veering off the road and crashing into a brick warehouse. Russo, 20, and their friend Davion Flanagan, 19, who was in the backseat, lost their lives instantly, while Shirilla was discovered unconscious with her foot still on the gas pedal.

Upon regaining consciousness in the hospital, reports indicated that Shirilla exhibited feelings of grief and guilt regarding the incident. Prosecutors have claimed that the crash was intentional, suggesting that Shirilla may have harbored intentions to harm Russo as their relationship deteriorated. He had reportedly attempted to break up with her multiple times, with one message ominously stating, “there isn’t very much time on earth, yaknow.”

In 2023, Shirilla was sentenced to two concurrent terms of 15 years to life for the deaths of Russo and Flanagan. A judge described her as “literal hell on wheels” during the trial, which she is currently appealing for a second time.
This haunting case has captured public attention and is now the focus of a popular Netflix documentary titled “The Crash.” What more secrets could the messages reveal about their relationship?
