Josh Duggar’s Prison Release Delayed Again as He Continues Fight to Overturn Conviction

Josh Duggar’s release date from federal prison has reportedly been pushed back for a third time as the former reality TV star continues his lengthy legal battle to overturn his child pornography conviction.

The former “19 Kids and Counting” star is currently serving a 151-month federal prison sentence after being convicted in 2021 on charges related to receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material.

Duggar, now 38, was arrested in 2021 following a federal investigation into illegal material allegedly downloaded onto a computer at his Arkansas car dealership in 2019. After a high-profile trial attended by several members of the Duggar family, including his wife Anna Duggar and father Jim Bob Duggar, he was found guilty and later sentenced to more than 12 years behind bars.

Federal officials have not publicly explained the reason behind the latest extension. However, release dates can change due to disciplinary actions, earned credits, or administrative adjustments within the Bureau of Prisons system.

Meanwhile, Duggar continues to challenge his conviction through multiple appeals and post-conviction filings.

In one of his latest legal efforts, Duggar requested the court appoint a new legal team, arguing that he lacked the money and legal knowledge necessary to properly challenge his conviction. Although the request was denied, he later retained Chicago-based attorney Beau B. Brindley.

A hearing connected to Duggar’s latest appeal efforts took place on April 15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he appeared virtually from prison.

According to reports, Duggar’s legal team presented several arguments in support of either granting a new trial or overturning the conviction entirely. Among those claims were allegations that a Department of Justice expert witness gave misleading testimony and that previous attorneys failed to adequately investigate another individual who allegedly had access to the computer involved in the case.

Despite repeated claims of innocence from Duggar, previous appeals have already been rejected by higher courts.

The Supreme Court later declined to hear the case in 2024, effectively leaving the conviction intact.

Duggar remains incarcerated at FCI Seagoville while the court reviews procedural questions tied to his latest appeal filings.

The renewed attention surrounding Josh Duggar’s legal troubles also comes amid mounting controversy involving his younger brother, Joseph Duggar, who is currently facing separate criminal charges in both Arkansas and Florida connected to alleged offenses involving minors.

Joseph Duggar has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
