Josh Duggar Blames Parents for Prioritizing Family Image After Child Porn Conviction

Josh Duggar is reportedly lashing out at his parents from prison, accusing Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of caring more about protecting the family’s public image and television empire than supporting him following his conviction on child sexual abuse material charges.

Josh Duggar says parents are 'blaming him' amid child molestation chargesAccording to a series of text messages obtained by PEOPLE, the disgraced former “19 Kids and Counting” star expressed frustration toward his parents while serving his federal prison sentence, claiming they failed to take responsibility for what he described as their role in his downfall.

“[I] am very disappointed,” Josh reportedly wrote to his mother, Michelle Duggar. “I feel like you just don’t receive criticism or take admission for your own actions THAT HAVE DIRECTLY AFFECTED MY LIFE.”

The 38-year-old continued by insisting he was being unfairly blamed while maintaining his innocence in the 2021 case that led to his conviction.

Josh claimed a former coworker at his used car dealership was responsible for downloading child sexual abuse material onto the office computer investigators traced back to him. Federal prosecutors previously rejected that defense during trial, and a jury ultimately convicted him on charges of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material.

“[T]he public statements and pr work to save shows and public images i feel were placed above family relationships,” he reportedly wrote. “and still are to this day.”

He also claimed Michelle “worry[ied] about pr more than anything else sometimes.”

Despite saying he was “not trying to shift blame,” Josh urged his mother to “consider your role and change so that other children are not in the same situations later.”

Michelle Duggar reportedly did not directly respond to the accusations but instead reassured her son that she loved him and shared supportive messages from others.

Josh Duggar was convicted in December 2021 after prosecutors proved he downloaded and possessed child sexual abuse material at his now-closed Arkansas car dealership in 2019.

In May 2022, he was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison — more than 12 years behind bars.
