In a dramatic turn of events, Karen Read, a Boston woman previously acquitted of murder in connection with her police officer boyfriend’s death, has launched a bold lawsuit against the Town of Canton and the Massachusetts State Police. The lawsuit, spanning 87 pages, paints a troubling picture of alleged bigotry and misogyny embedded in the culture of both organizations. One particularly disturbing message reportedly from Goode referred to Read in a derogatory manner, while Proctor’s texts contained equally offensive remarks about her appearance and intelligence. The messages also included disparaging comments about public figures, such as Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, raising serious questions about the professionalism of those involved in the investigation.
Read’s attorneys, Alan Jackson, Damon Seligson, and Aaron Rosenberg, assert that these revelations reflect a broader culture of bias and corruption that has long been tolerated within the police departments.
