HEROIC Fabio Wardley did not even visit a hospital after his valiant world title loss to Daniel Dubois on Saturday.
The 31-year-old Ipswich icon lost his WBO heavyweight crown to the 28-year-old after a thrilling 11-round war that will be a fight-of-the-decade contender.
The Suffolk puncher enjoyed a dream start, dropping the Londoner inside the first 10 seconds and again in the third.
But Dubois’ experience and brutality eventually overwhelmed the former recruitment office worker.
Wardley suffered a swollen right eye before the halfway point, that the ringside doctor inspected twice, before waving the action on.
And referee Howard Foster, who struggled to control some of 18st Dubois’ roughhouse tactics, dived in to stop the action in the penultimate round.
But, absolutely incredibly, Wardley was still on his feet and firing back.
And, when he was saved from his own freakish courage, he even leaned over the ropes to tell his mum not to worry about him.
And the father-of-one maintained his ice-cool sense of humour when he told SunSport: “I am absolutely fine.
“I just feel like I have been punched in the face.”
Wardley’s manager Michael Ofo explained in more detail just how rock-hard the Portman Road powerhouse is.
“Fabio is completely fine,” Ofo said.
“He was thoroughly examined and assessed on the night, in the ring and behind the scenes.
“Fabio didn’t suffer any concussion. He didn’t even suffer any breaks or fractures.
“All the blood and bruising was just cosmetic damage.
“Multiple doctors checked on Fabio after the fight and Fabio didn’t even need to go to hospital.
“He is healthy and at home with his proud family.”
